The paper reports a case of intrathoracic hemangiopericytoma localised in mediastinum which was brought to the authors attention and treated surgically. Having analysed the tumour's macro- and microscopic histological and biological features and the most suitable methods of diagnosis, the authors stress that, in line with international literature, radical surgery extended to the surrounding tissues is the elective surgical treatment for hemangiopericytoma in a mediastinal site.

Solitary fibrous tumour (SFT), a unique spindle-cell neoplasm, was first identified in the pleura and was earlier named as haemangiopericytoma. The origin of SFT is not well established; however, it has recently been described as a mesenchymal neoplasm, probably arising from the ubiquitous dendritic interstitial cells. SFTs are predominantly benign tumours with a low risk of malignant transformation and are commonly seen in the intrathoracic region, seldom involving extrapleural locations.

Myopericytoma is a rare tumor generally arising from skin and soft tissues of extremities, trunk, head, and neck regions, rarely from visceral sites. An intrathoracic visceral localization may carry a broad differential diagnosis including primary lung, pleura and chest wall lesions, or metastatic lesions. To date, any radiological features have been recognized and diagnosis of myopericytoma with intrathoracic localization remains still challenging.

Background: Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare mesenchymal tumor that typically arises from the pleura. Although it may appear in other organs, it rarely develops in the pancreas. We report herein a rare case of metastatic SFT of the pancreas originating from an intracranial tumor and subsequently identified as a cystic neoplasm of the pancreas.

Background: Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are uncommon mesenchymal neoplasms that present most commonly at intrathoracic sites. SFTs of the liver are rare, with only a few having been reported in the English-language literature. We report a rare case of a hepatic SFT and literature review.
