Expectancy of impaired neuropsychological test scores in a non-clinical sample.

Two methods were addressed to evaluate the incidence of false positive impairment on tests in neuropsychological evaluation. One method used a mathematical model based on the binomial theory (Ingraham & Aiken, 1996) to offer predictions based on probability. The model sets boundaries to determine when score variations would occur by chance and is therefore useful for identifying when cases exceed established boundaries. In addition, the present study examined test performance in a non-clinical sample of 94 college students via the Halstead Reitan Neuropsychological Test Battery. Results found that 15% of the sample had impairments suggested by the Halstead Impairment Index, using criteria established by Reitan and Wolfson (1993). In addition, one-half of the sample obtained impaired scores on one or two tests. These results are consistent with what the binomial model predicted. The model would therefore serve as a useful resource for clinicians when considering the probability of impaired test performance.

Objectives: This study compared cognitive flexibility (CF) and emotion recognition (ER) in adolescents with eating disorders (ED) to a healthy group.

Methods: Forty healthy individuals aged 12-18 years with no psychiatric diagnosis and 46 patients diagnosed with anorexia nervosa (AN), bulimia nervosa (BN), or binge eating disorder (BED) according to DSM-5 criteria participated. CF was assessed using the Cognitive Flexibility Scale (CFS), Stroop Test, and Berg Card Sorting Test (BCST), while ER was evaluated using the test of perception of affect via nonverbal cues.

Early detection of cognitive dysfunction in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is important for preventive measures due to the lack of effective treatments. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between enlarged perivascular space in the hippocampus (H-EPVS) and cognitive performance in patients with T2DM, and to determine whether it can serve as an imaging marker for cognitive dysfunction. 66 T2DM patients with cognitive impairment (T2DM-CI) and 71 T2DM patients with normal cognitive function (T2DM-NC) underwent cranial MRI scans and comprehensive neuropsychological assessments.

Objective: Delayed neurocognitive recovery, previously known as postoperative cognitive dysfunction, is a common complication affecting older adults after surgery. This study aims to address the knowledge gap in postoperative neurocognitive recovery by exploring the relationship between subjective experiences, performance-based measurements, and blood biomarkers.

Design: Mixed-methods study with a convergent parallel (QUAL+quan) design.

Cognitive decline is one of the most significant non-motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease (PD), with executive dysfunction (EDF) being the most prominent characteristic of PD-associated cognitive deficits. Currently, lack of uniformity in the conceptualization and assessment scales for executive functions impedes the early and accurate diagnosis of executive dysfunction in PD. The neurobiological mechanisms of executive dysfunction in PD remain poorly understood.
