Application of anaerobic fixed film fixed bed reactor (AFFFB), containing mixed population of bacteria, helps in bacterial immobilization as biofilm on a support medium in the reactor overcoming the problem of biomass washout. Knowledge of hydrodynamics characteristics helps in better understanding and evaluating the performance of any reactor. This paper presents residence time distribution (RTD) studies carried out to investigate the hydrodynamic behavior of AFFFB reactor under the influence of varied hydraulic loading resulting in HRTs in range 24 hrs to 6 hrs. Results have demonstrated that the flow pattern is more close to a plug flow type and vary with varying intensity of dispersion and the extent of dispersion increases with decrease in HRTs.

These differences in blooming patterns are partly explained by phytoplankton:nutrient interactions and external factors such as temperature, salinity and light availability. Accidental oil spills can have a serious impact on water bodies. While most current studies have focused on waves, few have examined water flows, which represent the most common hydrodynamic environment in urban inland waterways. In this study, 12 hydrodynamic conditions were constructed, and the oil vertical diffusion characteristics under hydrodynamic conditions were investigated by measuring oil concentration and oil droplet size distribution at different depths.

Water-in-oil high internal phase emulsions (W/O-HIPEs) typically rely on large amounts of surfactants to disperse water droplets and usually use crystalline saturated triacylglycerides (TAGs) to enhance processing properties. However, these practices conflict with consumer demands for 'natural' ingredients. This study seeks to develop novel crystal fractions similar to saturated TAGs for the preparation of W/O-HIPEs as low-calorie fat mimetics, focusing on their mechanical and mouthfeel properties, which have received little attention thus far.
