The binding of chitosan molecules to DNA in solutions of different ionic strength has been studied. The data were analyzed in terms of the model of ion condensation and the thermodynamic theory of the binding of protracted ligands to DNA. Combining these approaches made it possible to estimate the sterical and energetic characteristics of chitosan-DNA binding and establish the dependence of the chitosan-DNA binding constant on the ionic strength of solution.

In recent years, the use of cationic peptides as alternative drugs with anticancer activity has received attention. In this study, the targeted release of curcumin (Cur) and CM11 peptide alone and together against hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) was evaluated using chitosan nanoparticles (CS NPs) coated with Pres1 that target the SB3 antigen of HCC cells (PreS1-Cur-CM11-CS NPs). SB3 protein is the specific antigen of HCC and the PreS1 peptide is a part of the hepatitis B antigen, which can specifically bind to the SB3 protein.

Composite adsorbents based on a natural biopolymer matrix of chitosan, to which 4-amino-N'-hydroxy-1,2,5-oxadiazole-3-carboximidamide and its Se derivative were attached, were synthesized. A complex of physicochemical analysis methods indicates that the direct introduction of a matrix with high ionic permeability into the reaction mixture contributes to the formation of homogeneous particles of composite with developed surface morphology, which enhances the kinetic and capacitive parameters of uranium sorption in liquid media. It has been established that the direct introduction of a matrix with high ionic permeability into the reaction mixture contributes to the formation of homogeneous particles with a developed surface morphology, which enhances the kinetic and capacitive parameters of uranium sorption in liquid media.

In order to address the issue of food contamination by microorganisms and effectively harness the antibacterial properties of nisin, we attempted to incorporate nisin into natural polymer films while addressing its inherent instability. An antibacterial food packaging film based on carboxymethyl chitosan (CCS) binding with L-cysteine (CYS) and oxidized konjac glucomannan (OKG) was developed through both Schiff base reaction and addition reaction of thiol aldehyde. To analyze the effect of addition reaction of thiol aldehyde on the CCS-CYS/OKG films' physicochemical properties, the CCS-CYS was prepared with different CYS combination rates, which were further used to fabricate composite films.

Objective: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Engineered biomolecules can be used as a targeted tool to deliver drugs directly to tumors that reduce the adverse effects of conventional treatments. We aimed to prepare non-targeted oxaliplatin-loaded chitosan nanoparticles (OXPT-CS NPs) and targeted OXPT-CS NPs decorated with cetuximab single-chain variable fragment (scFv) to send both NPs to epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) overexpressing HCT 116 cells, a human colorectal carcinoma cell line, for comparing their cytotoxicity.
