The absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are critically determined by a few chemical-specific factors, notably their blood and tissue partition coefficients (PC) and metabolism. Age-specific values for PCs in rats have rarely been reported or utilized in pharmacokinetic modeling for predicting dosimetry in toxicity studies with rats progressing through their lifestages. A mixture of six VOCs (benzene, chloroform, methyl ethyl ketone, methylene chloride, trichloroethylene, and perchloroethylene) was used to determine blood:air and tissue:air PCs in rats at three different ages (postnatal d 10, 60 d, and 2 yr) and blood:air PCs in pediatric and adult human blood. No differences with age in human blood:air PCs for the six compounds were observed. Rat blood:air PCs increased with age varying with compound. Tissue:air PCs showed tissue-specific changes with age. Water-soluble methyl ethyl ketone showed no age-dependent differences. Partition coefficients, particularly the blood:air PC, are key determinants of the rodent and human blood concentrations; age-appropriate values improve the accuracy of pharmacokinetic model predictions of population variability and age-specific exposures.

QSAR modeling to describe n-octanol-water partition coefficients of perfluorinated/polyfluorinated alkyl compounds.

The widespread use of perfluoro/polyfluoroalkyl compounds (PFACs) makes it inevitable for them to be released into and affect the environment, and the octanol-water partition coefficient (logK) is a key indicator for evaluating the environmental behavior of trace pollutants and their impact on the environment. However, the determination of logK using experimental means is often time-consuming and laborious, or even unattainable. Therefore, the logKow of 20 per/polyfluoroalkyl compounds obtained from the PubChem database was selected as the object of study, and the 41 chemical descriptors required for modeling were obtained by density-functional theory calculations, and it was found that only two molecular descriptors (A, V) were significantly correlated with the logK, with the correlation of the descriptor A being the was the strongest.

This study aimed to develop and evaluate a novel fibroblast activation protein (FAP)-specific tracer, fluorine-18-labeled fibroblast activation protein inhibitor-FUSCC-07 ([F]F-FAPI-FUSCC-07), for use in both preclinical and clinical settings. Preclinical evaluations were conducted to assess the stability and partition coefficient of [F]F-FAPI-FUSCC-07. Experiments involving human glioma U87MG cells demonstrated its cellular uptake and inhibitory properties.

Validation of UniverSeg for Interventional Abdominal Angiographic Segmentation.

J Imaging Inform Med

January 2025

Department of Radiation Oncology, Henry Ford Health, Detroit, MI, USA.

Automatic segmentation of angiographic structures can aid in assessing vascular disease. While recent deep learning models promise automation, they lack validation on interventional angiographic data. This study investigates the feasibility of angiographic segmentation using in-context learning with the UniverSeg model, which is a cross-learning segmentation model that lacks inherent angiographic training.

Changes in flavor profile of sauce-flavor baijiu: Perceptual interactions between 1-propanol and aroma compounds.

Food Chem X

January 2025

School of Biotechnology and Key Laboratory of Industrial Biotechnology of Ministry of Education, Jiangnan University, Wuxi 214122, PR China.

1-Propanol is an important aroma compound in sauce-flavor Baijiu. However, the mechanism by which it affects the aroma of sauce-flavor Baijiu has not been fully investigated. In this study, an instrumental and perceptual analysis was employed to assess the impact of 1-propanol on the flavor and volatile compounds in sauce-flavor Baijiu.

An integrated understanding of dissolved phosphorous (DP) export mechanism and controls on export over dry and wet periods is crucial for riverine ecological restorations in dammed river basins considering its high bioavailability and retention rates at dams. Riverine DP transport patterns (composition, sources, and transport pathways), export controls, and fate were investigated over the 2020 wet season (5 events) and dry seasons before and after it (2 events: dry and dry) in a semi-arid, small-dammed watershed to comprehend the links between terrestrial DP sources and aquatic DP sinks. Close spatiotemporal monitoring of the full range of phosphorous and total suspended solids (TSSs) and subsequent analyses (hysteresis, hierarchical partitioning, and coefficient of variation) provided the basis for the study.
