Sleep stewardship is a systematic effort to ensure relaxed and restorative sleep, by optimizing pre-sleep, intra-sleep and post-sleep environment and ambience, in a rational manner. It includes not only sleep hygiene and prevention of sleeping pill abuse, but also macro- and meso-level interventions to improve sleep quality. The person living with sleep disorder, their family, members of society, health care professionals, and policy makers: all have a role to play in sleep stewardship.

Objective: This study presents a case series of five women with zolpidem dependence treated at the Drug Dependent Women Treatment Center (PROMUD), one of the first women-specific substance use disorder outpatient services in Latin America.

Methods: This was an retrospective review of medical records of patients with a diagnosis of zolpidem dependence at the Institute of Psychiatry of Clinics Hospital of University of São Paulo between December 2021 and December 2023. Description of the cases followed the Case Report Statement, Checklist and Guidelines (CARE).

The prevalence of drugged driving has increased in the United States. Some drugged driving may be unintentional as prescription medications used as sleeping aids, like zolpidem, cause impairment after the predicted duration of therapeutic action has elapsed. The aim of this study was to determine if nighttime administration of alprazolam, a drug commonly prescribed off-label as a sleeping aid, impacts driving performance the following day.

The French Addictovigilance Network has been using data from the French Heath insurance since the late 1990s to assess prescription drug abuse. In this narrative review, we illustrate the inputs of pharmacoepidemiology in addictovigilance based on the experience of the French Addictovigilance Network. The review focuses on pharmacoepidemiology using the French National Health Data System.

We reported a case of Zolpidem addiction and successful detoxification, reviewed similar cases in the literature, and proposed a potential mechanism underlying Zolpidem addiction.
