Tokai Medical Products developed an intra-aortic balloon pumping (IABP) balloon catheter with the following unique characteristics: the balloon can be applied to any patient irrespective of their physical size, and is therefore suitable for Japanese patients of small stature; a long soft tip is used, which is designed to avoid damage to blood vessels; the size of the catheter is reduced to 7 Fr, and the catheter can be used as a multifunctional balloon catheter, such as the Yoshioka type, that allows simultaneous percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). The safety of this catheter has been proven in scientific studies. In this review, we report the development of our IABP balloon catheter and give an outline of its characteristics.

Background: The purpose of this study is to evaluate differences in transdiaphragmatic pressure (Pdi) in dogs suffering from cervical myelopathy (CM) and thoracolumbar myelopathy (TLM) anaesthetised with isoflurane (ISO).
Methods: This prospective cohort study included ASA II-status dogs diagnosed with either CM or TLM, anaesthetised for diagnostic or surgical purposes between September 2021 and July 2023. Patients followed the same anaesthetic protocol, and maximum Pdi was recorded at 10 (Pdimax10), 20 (Pdimax20), and 30 (Pdimax30) minutes using balloon catheters placed in the stomach (Pgast) and in the mid-third of the oesophagus (Poes).

Background: The elderly population (≥80 years) were underrepresented in recent trials of endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) for anterior circulation large vessel occlusion acute ischemic stroke (LVO-AIS) with low Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score (ASPECTS) (≤5).
Methods: This study analyzed data from a prospectively maintained database of 37 thrombectomy centers. The primary cohort of the study comprised patients with LVO-AIS aged ≥80 who underwent EVT with ASPECTS≤5 from 2013 to 2023.

Anterior choroidal artery (AChoA) aneurysms pose a challenge for both endovascular and clipping procedures. The eloquent territory supplied by the parent vessel has limited collateralization and its compromise can lead to significant morbidity. This study aims to analyze the clinical outcomes and procedure-related complications of clipping and endovascular treatment of AChoA aneurysms to aid physician decision making.

Background: Assessing maternal pain and satisfaction following administration of paracetamol vs. placebo prior to catheter balloon placement.
Methods: Primiparous women at term admitted for medically-indicated labor induction were randomized to receive intravenous paracetamol 1 gram in 100cc normal saline (N=71) or placebo of 100cc normal saline (N=70) prior to catheter balloon insertion.

Intrauterine Adhesions (IUAs) are characterized by endometrial damage due to endometritis or curettage. Currently, the gold standard for IUA treatment is hysteroscopy, which enables the dissolution of IUA through mechanical or electrosurgical energy. Common strategies to prevent recurrence include the insertion of a balloon catheter or IUD in the uterus.
