Background And Purpose: The hand motor cortex (HMC) has been classically described as having an omega or epsilon shape in axial-plane images obtained with CT and MR imaging. The aim of this study was to use MR imaging and Talairach normalization in a large sample population that was homogeneous for age and handedness to evaluate in a sex model a new classification with 5 morphologic variants of the HMC in the axial plane (omega, medially asymmetric epsilon, epsilon, laterally asymmetric epsilon, and null).
Materials And Methods: Structural brain MR images were obtained from 257 right-handed healthy subjects (143 men and 114 women; mean age, 23.1 +/- 1.1 years) via a Talairach space transformed 3D magnetization-prepared rapid acquisition of gradient echo sequence. The frequencies of the different HMC variants were reported for hemisphere and sex.
Results: The new variants of the HMC (medially asymmetric epsilon, laterally asymmetric epsilon, and null) were observed in 2.9%, 7.0%, and 1.8% of the hemispheres, respectively. Statistically significant sex differences were observed: The epsilon variant was twice as frequent in men, and an interhemispheric concordance for morphologic variants was observed only for women.
Conclusion: The large study population permitted the description of a new morphologic classification that included 3 new variants of the HMC. This new morphologic classification should facilitate the identification of the precentral gyrus in subsequent studies and in everyday practice.

The compression behavior of iron oxyhydroxide ε-FeOOH is complex, with variations in its magnetic property and bonding character. In this study, in situ powder neutron diffraction experiments were conducted on ε-FeOOH and ε-FeOOD up to pressures exceeding 20 GPa to investigate a spin-reorientation (spin-flop) transition, hydrogen-bond (H-bond) symmetrization, and their correlation. The magnetic transition was observed at 8 GPa in both ε-FeOOH and ε-FeOOD.

In this work, we describe a computational tool designed to determine the local dielectric constants (ε) of charge-neutral heterogeneous systems by analyzing dipole moment fluctuations from molecular dynamics (MD) trajectories. Unlike conventional methods, our tool can calculate dielectric constants for dynamically evolving selections of molecules within a defined region of space, rather than for fixed sets of molecules. We validated our approach by computing the dielectric constants of TIP3P water nanospheres, achieving results consistent with literature values for bulk water.

Narrowband fluorescent emitters are receiving significant attention due to the great potential for creating ultrahigh-definition organic light-emitting diode displays (UHD-OLED). Unveiling innovative mechanisms to design new high-performance narrowband fluorescent emitters is a concerted endeavor in both academic and industrial circles. Theoretical calculations reveal that the centrosymmetric dianilido-bipyridine boron difluoride framework (-DAPBF) exhibits significantly reduced structural relaxation compared to previously reported asymmetric structures with monofluoroboron cores, creating new opportunities for the development of narrowband fluorescent emitters.

Asymmetric sponge dressings with a hydrophobic surface and a hydrophilic inner layer can prevent bacterial infiltration and ensure efficient absorption of wound exudate. In this work, ε-polylysine/aliphatic polyurethane sponge (EPU) was prepared by prepolymer foaming process, and oxidized hyaluronic acid (OHA) was cross-linked with ε-polylysine (EPL) in EPU through schiff-base reaction to obtain EHPU. Octaisobutyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (Oi-POSS) was uniformly sprayed onto the surface of EHPU as the hydrophobic layer, resulting in asymmetric sponge dressings denoted as P-EHPU.

The construction of far-red fluorescent molecular rotors (FMRs) is an imperative task for developing nucleic acid stains that have superior compatibility with cellular systems and complex matrices. A typical strategy relies on the methine extension of asymmetric cyanines, which unfortunately fails to produce sensitive rotor character. To break free from this paradigm, we have synthesized far-red hemicyanines using a dimethylamino thieno[3,2-]thiophene donor.
