Department of Thoracic Surgery, Shandong Provincial Hospital, Shandong University, Jinan 250021, China.

Published: June 2007

Objective: To explore the clinical therapeutic effect of esophageal carcinoma with hand video assisted surgery.

Methods: Forty cases which C TNM stage was T3N1M0 received hand video assisted surgery (HVATS group), 40 cases received routine operation (control group). Recurrence survival analysis of each group was analyzed with SPSS10.0 software according to the date of the stage and survival rate.

Results: All group have satisfied surgical result. All patients have good quality of life. The 3 year survival rate was 52.7% in HVATS group and 51.3% in control group. The difference of survival rate was no significance.

Conclusion: Hand video assisted surgery for esophageal carcinoma had same result as routine thoracic operation. Short operation time, less trauma and fast recovery are the advantages of hand video assisted surgery.

The 100-m sprint is one of the track events, and the pace of the runner can be measured using a variety of tools, such as a hand stopwatch, timing gate, laser device, radar device, photocell timing, etc. The data measured is the mean travel time. Nonetheless, monitoring an individual sprinter's instantaneous speed tracking is essential for assisting staff trainers in developing an appropriate training schedule for the individual sprinter.

Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (IKIM), University Hospital Essen (AöR), Essen, Germany.

Objectives: The shape is commonly used to describe the objects. State-of-the-art algorithms in medical imaging are predominantly diverging from computer vision, where voxel grids, meshes, point clouds, and implicit surface models are used. This is seen from the growing popularity of ShapeNet (51,300 models) and Princeton ModelNet (127,915 models).

Background: This study aims to investigate the effect of a newly developed virtual reality task-oriented training (VR-TOT) video game on upper extremity fine motor function compared with conventional occupational therapy through leap motion in children with spastic hemiplegic cerebral palsy (CP).

Methods: In this double-blind randomized clinical trial, 30 children with spastic hemiplegic CP aged six to 10 years were included and randomly allocated into two groups. During six weeks, 15 patients in the intervention group received VR_TOT-based video game in addition to conventional occupational therapy, whereas 15 patients in the control group received only conventional occupational therapy.

Face-to-face communication is not only about 'what' is said but also 'how' it is said, both in speech and bodily signals. Beat gestures are rhythmic hand movements that typically accompany prosodic prominence in conversation. Yet, it is still unclear how beat gestures influence language comprehension.

MolecularWebXR is a new web-based platform for education, science communication and scientific peer discussion in chemistry and biology, based on modern web-based Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR). With no installs as it is all web-served, MolecularWebXR enables multiple users to simultaneously explore, communicate and discuss concepts about chemistry and biology in immersive 3D environments, by manipulating and passing around objects with their bare hands and pointing at different elements with natural hand gestures. Users may either be present in the same physical space or distributed around the world, in the latter case talking naturally with each other thanks to built-in audio.
