Electrodes with electrochemical dimensions as small as 10 angstroms have been fabricated and used for electrochemical studies. These nanometer-scale electrodes have enabled the measurement of electron-transfer rate constants, k(het), that are two orders of magnitude faster than k(het) values accessible with any other electrochemical method.

Micro- and nanomorphological modification and roughening of titanium implant surfaces can enhance osseointegration; however, the optimal morphology remains unclear. Laser processing of implant surfaces has demonstrated significant potential due to its precision, controllability, and environmental friendliness. Femtosecond lasers, through precise optimization of processing parameters, can modify the surface of any solid material to generate micro- and nanomorphologies of varying scales and roughness.

The nanoconfinement effects of glassy polymer thin films on their thermal and mechanical properties have been investigated thoroughly, especially with an emphasis on its altered glass transition behavior compared to bulk polymer, which has been known for almost three decades. While research in this direction is still evolving, reaching new heights to unravel the underlying physics of phenomena observed in confined thin polymer films, we have a much clearer picture now. This, in turn, has promoted their application in miniaturized and functional applications.

To facilitate rapid monitoring of airborne viruses, they must be collected with high efficiency and concentrated in a small volume of a liquid sample. In addition, the development of low-cost miniaturized samplers is essential for multipoint monitoring. Thus, in an attempt to fulfill these requirements, this study developed a microfluidic condensation bioaerosol sampler (MCBS).

Phase transitions play an important role in tuning the physical properties of two-dimensional (2D) materials as well as developing their high-performance device applications. Here, we reported the observation of a phase transition in few-layered MoTe flakes by the irradiation of gallium (Ga) ions using a focused ion beam (FIB) system. The semiconducting 2H phase of MoTe can be controllably converted to the metallic 1T'-like phase via Te defect engineering during irradiations.
