The present study investigates the antihypertensive action of cicletanine, a new antihypertensive compound with diuretic properties (or placebo), on vasopressor (catecholamines, renin-aldosterone) as well as vasodepressor (prostaglandins, kallikrein-kinin) systems in conscious chronic sinoaortic denervated (SAD) dogs. Cicletanine (10 mg/kg twice a day, per os, for one month) lowered blood pressure and heart rate. The antihypertensive action does not involve an effect on sympathetic tone (since plasma catecholamine levels were unmodified) or on plasma aldosterone levels. By contrast, urinary 6 keto PGF1 or PGE2 levels and kallikrein activity were enhanced. This result indicates that the antihypertensive effect of cicletanine is associated with a stimulation of potential vasodepressor systems (such as prostaglandins or kinins).

In the Kolmogorov Theory of Consciousness, algorithmic agents utilize inferred compressive models to track coarse-grained data produced by simplified world models, capturing regularities that structure subjective experience and guide action planning. Here, we study the dynamical aspects of this framework by examining how the requirement of tracking natural data drives the structural and dynamical properties of the agent. We first formalize the notion of a using the language of symmetry from group theory, specifically employing Lie pseudogroups to describe the continuous transformations that characterize invariance in natural data.

The sleep-wake states and general anesthesia share many neurophysiological similarities, as both involve reversible changes in consciousness and modulation of brain activity. This paper reviews the role of glutamatergic neurons, the brain's primary excitatory neurons, in regulating sleep-wake states and general anesthesia. We discuss the involvement of glutamatergic neurons across various brain regions, including the brainstem, basal forebrain, thalamus, hypothalamus, and cortex, highlighting their contributions to physiological sleep-wake and anesthesia modulation.
