Institute of Cardiovascular Physiology, University Medical Center Göttingen, Georg-August-University Göttingen, 37073 Goettingen, Germany.

Inhibition of the prolyl-4-hydroxylase domain (PHD) enzymes, leading to the stabilization of hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) α as well as to the stimulation of erythropoietin (Epo) synthesis, is the functional mechanism of the new anti-anemia drug roxadustat. Little is known about the effects of roxadustat on the Epo-producing cell pool. To gain further insights into the function of PHD inhibitors, we characterized the abundance of mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-like cells after roxadustat treatment of mice.

Human erythropoietin (hEPO) is an erythropoiesis stimulating hormone frequently employed in antianemia therapy. Its capability to increase the amount of red blood cells however makes hEPO and its derivatives also attractive to dishonest athletes aiming at an artificial and illicit enhancement of their endurance performance. A major objective of the international antidoping fight is the elimination of drug misuse and prevention of severe adverse effects caused by nontherapeutic administrations of highly potent drugs.

On the white Wistar rats with alimentary dyslipidemia investigated influence 1-O-alkyl-glycerides ethers (AGE), received by a method of hydrolysis 1-O-alkyl-diacylglycerides from lipids of the squid Berryteuthis magister liver, on a lipid metabolism, hepatobiliary functions of liver, antioxidant systems and parameters of blood. Are revealed antioxidant, antianemia and immunoactive properties of AGE. AGE raise a level of glucose and activity of enzymes hepatobiliary systems in blood, interfere the decrease of a cholesterol in blood.

[Experimental studies on antianimia effect of shengxuesu].

Zhongguo Zhong Yao Za Zhi

June 2003

Pharmacology Department, Shanxi Institute for Drug Control, Taiyuan 030001, Shanxi, China.

Objective: Using animal anemia models to observe the antianemia effect of Shengxuesu, and to afford an experimental basis for preventing and treating anemia.

Method: Rat model of iron deficiency induced by denutrition and mouse model of nemorrhagic anemia by blood lefting were established. Indices of hemoglobin(HB), red blood cell count(RBC), hematocrit(HCT), mean corpuscular hemoglobin count(MCHC), serum iron(SI), serum ferritin (SF) and total iron-binding capacity(TIBC) were monitored.
