Soil is regarded as a natural repository for strongly adsorbed pollutants since glyphosate (GLY) is preferentially adsorbed by the inorganic fraction of the soil, which may greatly limits its leaching. In this way, understanding how clay mineralogy influences the sorption and transport processes of glyphosate in soils with different mineralogical characteristics is highly relevant. In this work, two clay mineralogy contrasting soils were used to evaluate GLY retention: a Oxisol (OX) with high levels of iron oxides (amorphous and crystalline) and a Inceptisol (IN) with a predominance of kaolinite.

A strategically designed ternary nanohybrid (TNS-PDA/CNT), consisting of titanate nanosheet (TNS) and polydopamine-modified multiwalled carbon nanotube (PDA/CNT composite), was synthesized by the facile hydrothermal method and wet impregnation method for removal of U(VI) from aqueous solution and were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy-energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Raman spectroscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). TNSs were introduced into the PDA/CNT composite, which effectively averted the agglomeration of the CNT and further exposed more adsorption sites. PDA thin layer exposing more active sites was conducive to enhance adsorption capacity and kinetic.

Challenges in developing adsorbents with sufficient phosphate (P) adsorption capacity, selectivity, and regeneration properties remain to be addressed. Herein, a multi-functionalized high-capacity nanocellulose/alginate hydrogel (La-NCF/SA-PEI [La: lanthanum, NCF: nanocellulose fiber, SA: sodium alginate, PEI: polyethyleneimine]) was prepared through environmentally friendly methods. The La-NCF/SA-PEI hydrogel, featuring a 3D porous structure with interwoven functional groups (amino, quaternary ammonium, and lanthanum), demonstrated a maximum P adsorption capacity of 78.

Redox Active vs Redox Neutral in Ru/Pd-Catalyzed Sulfonylation: Theoretical Insights into Structure-Activity Relationship between Metal Centers and Regio-Selectivity.

Key Laboratory of Advanced Materials Technologies, International (Hong Kong Macao and Taiwan) Joint Laboratory on Advanced Materials Technologies, College of Materials Science and Engineering, Fuzhou University, Fuzhou, Fujian 350108, China.

The structure-activity relationship between the metal center and regio-selectivity is persistently a pivotal scientific issue. To address this, we select the 2-phenylpyridine sulfonylation reactions catalyzed by ruthenium and palladium as research subjects. An extensive theoretical study has been conducted on their reaction mechanisms, the sources of regio-selectivity, and the evolution of electronic structures.

Combining chemical oxidation and adsorption is highly desirable but challenging to remove organoarsenic compounds for water purification. Herein, we prepared a Zn-doped CuO (CuZnO-2) catalyst by incorporating Zn atoms into the CuO lattice, which results in abundant surface oxygen vacancies (OVs) and modulates the electronic structure of Cu-OVs-Zn sites for PMS activation to degrade p-arsanilic acid (p-ASA) and adsorb the secondary arsenic species simultaneously. The elevated d-band centers for Cu upward to the Fermi level can significantly strengthen the adsorption of PMS, p-ASA, and the generated arsenic species.
