Van Hove singularity (vHs), the singularity point of density of states (DOS) in crystalline solids, is a research hotspot in emerging phenomena such as light-matter interaction, superconducting, and quantum anomalous Hall effect. Although the significance of vHs in photothermoelectric (PTE) effect has been recognized, its integral role in electron excitation and thermoelectric effect is still unclear, particularly in the mid-infrared band that suffers from Pauli blockade in semimetals. Here, we unveil the Fermi-level-modulated PTE behavior in the vicinity of vHs in carbon nanotubes, employing ionic-liquid gating.

Here we report their effect on the properties of a family of bandwidth-controlled alkali-intercalated fullerene superconductors. We introduce elastic strain through static local structural disorder in a systematic and controllable way in the fcc-structured K Cs C (with potassium content, 0.

ConspectusBuckminsterfullerene, C, was discovered through a prominent mass peak containing 60 atoms produced from laser vaporization of graphite, driven by Kroto's interest in understanding the formation mechanisms of carbon-containing molecules in space. Inspired by the geodesic dome-shaped architecture designed by Richard Buckminster Fuller, after whom the particle was named, C was found to have a football-shaped structure comprising 20 hexagons and 12 pentagons. It sparked worldwide interest in understanding this new carbon allotrope, resulting in the awarding of the Noble Prize in Chemistry to Smalley, Kroto, and Curl in 1996.

To explore carbide superconductors with higher transition temperature, two novel carbon structures of cage-network are designed and their superconductivity is studied by doping metals. MC and MC are respectively identified as C and C cage-network structures. This study finds that both carbon structures drive strong electron-phonon interaction and can exhibit superconductivity above liquid nitrogen temperature.

The conductivity and strength of carbon nanotube (CNT) wires currently rival those of existing engineering materials; fullerene-based materials have not progressed similarly, despite their exciting transport properties such as superconductivity. This communication reveals a new mechanically robust wire of mutually aligned fullerene supramolecules self-assembled between CNT bundles, where the fullerene supramolecular internal crystal structure and outer surface are aligned and dispersed with the CNT bundles. The crystallinity, crystal dimensions, and other structural features of the fullerene supramolecular network are impacted by a number of important production processes such as fullerene concentration and postprocess annealing.
