A deep learning algorithm that aids visualization of femoral neck fractures and improves physician training.

Injury

December 2024

Department of Radiology, The 989th Hospital of the PLA Joint Logistics Support Force, Luoyang, Henan Province, China; Department of Radiology, General hospital of Central Theater Command, Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • * Using 1,527 radiographs, the model achieved a high accuracy rate of 94.1% in detecting fractures, and significantly improved the diagnostic accuracy of emergency physicians and training outcomes for medical trainees.
  • * The findings suggest that integrating deep learning algorithms into clinical practice can enhance physicians' ability to visualize fractures and improve their training effectiveness.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the link between female reproductive factors—such as age at first birth (AFB), age at last birth (ALB), gravidity, and number of live births (NLB)—and the prevalence of depression among women in the U.S.
  • The analysis was conducted using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2005-2018), focusing on women aged 20 and older, with depression evaluated through specific questionnaires.
  • Results indicated that women who had their first child later tended to experience lower rates of depression, while those with five or more pregnancies had a significantly higher prevalence, suggesting that these reproductive factors play a key role in mental health outcomes.

[Correlation between femoral offset, rotation center and leg length discrepancy after total hip arthroplasty based on digital analysis].

Zhongguo Gu Shang

April 2024

Orthopaedic tissue Transplantation in the First Affiliated Hospital of Bengbu Medical College, Bengbu Medical College, Bengbu 233004, Anhui, China; Department of Orthopaedics, Eastern Theater General Hospital, Nanjing 210000, Jiangsu, China.

Objective: CT scans combined with Mimics software were used to measure femoral offset (FO), rotation center height (RCH) and lower leg length discrepancy (LLD) following total hip arthroplasty (THA), and the relationship between FO, RCH and LLD after THA is discussed.

Methods: Retrospective analysis was performed on 40 patients with unilateral THA who met standard cases from October 2020 to June 2022. There were 21 males and 19 females, 18 patients on the left side and 22 patients on the right side, aged range from 30 to 81 years old, with an average age of (58.

Article Synopsis
  • * The phase 3 RESONANCE trial tested the combination of S-1 and oxaliplatin (SOX) in patients with resectable stage II/III gastric cancer, comparing those receiving perioperative chemotherapy to those getting adjuvant chemotherapy.
  • * Results showed a higher three-year disease-free survival rate (61.7% vs. 53.8%) and a better R0 resection rate (94.9% vs. 83.7%) in the perioperative group without differences in surgical outcomes or complications, supporting the potential benefits of perioperative SOX.

Updated overall survival and circulating tumor DNA analysis of ensartinib for crizotinib-refractory ALK-positive NSCLC from a phase II study.

Cancer Commun (Lond)

April 2024

Department of Medical Oncology, Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China, Collaborative Innovation Center for Cancer Medicine, Guangzhou, Guangdong, P. R. China.

Background: The initial phase II stuty (NCT03215693) demonstrated that ensartinib has shown clinical activity in patients with advanced crizotinib-refractory, anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK)-positive non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Herein, we reported the updated data on overall survival (OS) and molecular profiling from the initial phase II study.

Methods: In this study, 180 patients received 225 mg of ensartinib orally once daily until disease progression, death or withdrawal.
