A 54-year-old man presented with increasing arthralgia and swelling of the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joints II and III for approximately 2 years. He also reported morning stiffness and joint pain in both knees and feet. Both MCP joints II and III and the proximal interphalangeal joints II and III were tender without visible swelling.

The elucidation of the functional neuroanatomy of human fear, or threat, extinction has started in the 2000s by a series of enthusiastically greeted functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies that were able to translate findings from rodent research about an involvement of the ventromedial prefrontal cortex (vmPFC) and the hippocampus in fear extinction into human models. Enthusiasm has been painfully dampened by a meta-analysis of human fMRI studies by Fullana and colleagues in 2018 who showed that activation in these areas is inconsistent, sending shock waves through the extinction research community. The present review guides readers from the field (as well as non-specialist readers desiring safe knowledge about human extinction mechanisms) during a series of exposures with corrective information.

Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) are responsible for the premature deaths of more than 38 million people each year, making them the leading cause of the global burden of disease, accounting for 70% of global mortality. The majority of these deaths are caused by cardiovascular diseases. The risk of NCDs is closely related to exposure to environmental stressors such as air pollution, noise pollution, artificial light at night, and climate change, including extreme heat, sandstorms, and wildfires.

Background: Integrative Oncology (IO) - the use of lifestyle modifications, mind-body practices and natural products in oncology - is increasingly asked for by patients. The evidence base of IO is growing and IO measures are included in national guidelines. Still, many questions about IO remain unanswered or still show a poor evidence base.

The selective decarboxylative fluorination of 3-oxo-3-phenylpropionic acid is used as a benchmark reaction to optimize it under biocompatible conditions in batch and to transfer it to continuous flow mode. The reaction conditions are varied with respect to temperature, fluorinating reagents, inorganic base additives, and pH, as these parameters have been identified as having a significant impact on the process. The formation of the products and any by-products is analyzed using gas chromatography (GC) and F nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR).
