Recent experiments have revealed several key features of the unique nature of the new, high-transition temperature cuprate superconductors. These results provide an easily understandable, physical picture of the structure and behavior of the charge carriers in these materials, and point to the mechanism responsible for their existence. These experiments are now placing strong constraints on possible theoretical models of the phenomenon.

Premature drug release is the primary hindrance to the effective function of the lyso-thermosensitive liposomes (LTSLs) of doxorubicin (Dox), known as ThermoDox® for the treatment of cancer. Herein, we have optimized LTSLs by using a combination of phospholipids (PLs) with high transition temperatures (Tm) to improve the therapeutic outcome in an assisted ultrasound approach. For this, several Dox LTSLs were prepared using the remote loading method at varying molar ratios (0 to 90 %) of DPPC (Tm 41 °C) and HSPC (Tm 54.

Micelles, liposomes, and solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) are promising drug delivery vehicles; however, poor aqueous stability requires post-processing drying methods for maintaining long-term stability. The objective of this study was to compare the potential of lipid-based micelles, liposomes, and SLNs for producing stable re-dispersible spray-dried powders with trehalose or a combination of trehalose and L-leucine. This study provides novel insights into the implementation of spray drying as a technique to enhance long-term stability for these lipid-based nanocarriers.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers propose a new method for creating multiple shape memory polymers (SMPs) by mixing immiscible polymers under high pressure and shear, rather than traditional blending techniques.
  • This approach allows for nanoscale homogeneity (40-95 nm) in the blends, improving both shape memory and mechanical performance.
  • The study focused on a blend of polypropylene (PP) and polystyrene (PS), demonstrating that the processed blend achieves a strong triple shape memory effect with high shape fixation and recoverability, along with adjustable transition temperatures.

High-temperature field-free superconducting diode effect in high-T cuprates.

Nat Commun

International Center for Quantum Materials, School of Physics, Peking University, Beijing, China.

The superconducting diode effect (SDE) is defined by the difference in the magnitude of critical currents applied in opposite directions. It has been observed in various superconducting systems and attracted high research interests. However, the operating temperature of the SDE is typically low and/or the sample structure is rather complex.

Understanding how membrane composition influences the dynamics and function of transmembrane proteins is crucial for the comprehensive elucidation of cellular signaling mechanisms and the development of targeted therapeutics. In this study, we employed all-atom molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the impact of different membrane compositions on the conformational dynamics of the NKG2A/CD94/HLA-E immune receptor complex, a key negative regulator of natural killer cell cytotoxic activity. Our results reveal significant variations in the behavior of the immune complex structure across five different membrane compositions, which include POPC, POPA, DPPC, and DLPC phospholipids, and a mixed POPC/cholesterol system.
