Variations in hydrophobicity of the surface of bacillary cells and their capacity to flotation in the process of batch cultivation have been studied. It is shown that hydrophobicity of the cell surface increases in the course of batch cultivation of Bacillus thuringiensis, B. licheniformis and B. megaterium. Hydrophobicity of spores of the mentioned cultures is considerably higher than that of the vegetative cells. The increase of hydrophobicity of bacillary cells positively correlated with their capacity to flotation. That is why the use of flotation for the age fractionation of bacillary cells is possible: spores are concentrated in the foam while vegetative cells remain in the culture liquid.

Diarrheal diseases caused by and enterotoxigenic (ETEC) are significant health burdens, especially in resource-limited regions with high child mortality. In response to the lack of licensed vaccines and rising antibiotic resistance for these pathogens, this study developed a recombinant strain with the novel incorporation of the gene for the heat-labile enterotoxin B (LTB) subunit of ETEC directly into 's genome, enhancing stability and consistent production. This approach combines the immunogenic potential of LTB with the antigen delivery properties of outer membrane vesicles (OMVs), aiming to provide cross-protection against both bacterial pathogens in a stable, non-replicating vaccine platform.

Direct sputum whole genome sequencing (dsWGS) can revolutionize () diagnosis by enabling rapid detection of drug resistance and strain diversity without the biohazard of culture. We searched PubMed, Web of Science and Google scholar, and identified 8 studies that met inclusion criteria for testing protocols for dsWGS. Utilising meta-regression we identify several key factors positively associated with dsWGS success, including higher bacillary load, mechanical disruption, and enzymatic/chemical lysis.

Autophagy, metabolism, and associated signaling pathways play critical roles in bacterial survival within mammalian cells and influence the immunopathogenesis of infections. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are important host cells during Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) infection, yet how autophagy, metabolism, and related pathways are modulated in MSCs infected with the virulent H37Rv or the attenuated H37Ra strain of Mtb remains poorly understood. In this study, we utilized RNA-Seq screening, qRT-PCR, and Western Blotting to investigate the differences in these processes between H37Rv and H37Ra infections.
