Immune and physiological responses in to ammonia-N stress: a multi-omics approach.

Front Immunol

December 2024

South China Sea Fisheries Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, Key Laboratory of South China Sea Fishery Resources Exploitation and Utilization, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Guangzhou, China.

Ammonia-N stress is a significant environmental factor that adversely affects the health and productivity of aquaculture species. This study investigates the effects of ammonia-N stress on the shrimp through a combination of biochemical, histological, transcriptomic, and metabolomic analyses. Shrimp were exposed to ammonia-N stress for 12 and 96 hours, and key markers of oxidative stress, nitrogen metabolism, immune response, and overall health were assessed.

Anthracycline doxorubicin (DOX) remains the first-line chemotherapeutic drug for the efficient treatment of breast cancer, but its severe cardiotoxicity limits its long-term application in clinical tumor chemotherapy. Until now, the pathogenesis mechanism of DOX-induced cardiotoxicity (DIC) is still not fully understood. According to current studies, the oxidative stress caused by the imbalance of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS) production and mitochondrial dysfunction in myocardial cells are closely related to DIC.

A full-scale simultaneous partial nitrification, anaerobic ammonia oxidation (anammox), and denitrification (SNAD) reactor was initiated to address the problem of high energy consumption for the treatment of low C/N wastewater. The SNAD system achieved a nitrogen removal rate of 0.9 kg/(m·d) at an influent NH₄-N concentration of 500 mg/L after 450 days of stable operation.

Effect of nitrogen levels on grain yield and quality in improving mid-season japonica rice varieties.

J Sci Food Agric

December 2024

Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Crop Genetics and Physiology/Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Crop Cultivation and Physiology, Jiangsu Co-Innovation Center for Modern Production Technology of Grain Crops, Yangzhou University, Yangzhou, China.

Background: Nitrogen application is recognized as a principal factor influencing rice quality. However, there remains a paucity of research on the effects of different N levels on quality, particularly within the context of the improvement of rice varieties.

Results: This study examined 14 mid-season japonica rice varieties cultivated in Jiangsu province over the past 80 years under five N application levels (0, 90, 180, 270, and 360 kg N ha).

Diversity and Distribution of Methane Functional Microorganisms in Sedimentary Columns of Hongfeng Reservoir in Different Seasons.

Curr Microbiol

December 2024

Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, School of Environmental and Chemical Engineering, Shanghai University, 150#, 99 Shangda Road, Shanghai, 200444, China.

Freshwater ecosystem is a significant natural source of CH emission in the atmosphere. To fully understand the dynamics of methane emissions in reservoirs, it is essential to grasp the temporal and vertical distribution patterns, as well as the factors that influence the methanogenic bacterial communities within the sediments. This study investigates the methane dynamics, carbon isotope fractionation (δCH), and abundance of functional microorganisms along the geochemical gradient in the in situ sedimentary column of Hongfeng Reservoir (China).
