Massively parallel computers offer scientists a new tool for computation, with capabilities and limitations that are substantially different from those of traditional serial computers. Most categories of large-scale scientific computations have proven remarkably amenable to parallel computation, but often the algorithms involved are different from those used on sequential machines. By surveying a range of examples of parallel scientific computations, this article summarizes our current understanding of the issues of applicability and programming of parallel computers for scientific applications.

Primary large B-cell lymphoma of immune-privileged sites (IP-LBCL) encompasses a spectrum of relatively rare aggressive B-cell lymphomas, such as primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL), primary testicular large B-cell lymphoma (PTL), and primary vitreoretinal large B-cell lymphoma (PVRL). Macroscopically, the development of IPI-LBCL may be associated with the dysfunction of meningeal lymphatic vessels (mLVs) and the perivascular channel system formed by astrocytes. Microscopically, mutation in MYD88 and CD79B genes plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of IP-LBCL.

The synergistic enhancement of bactericidal efficiencies on freshly cut slices by parallel processing using slightly acidic electrolyzed water (SAEW) and high-pressure (HP) technology was comprehensively investigated in this study. To this end, appropriate experimental conditions were determined through single-factor tests, which were ACCs (available chlorine concentrations) of 30, 38, and 49 mg/L; pressures of 100, 150, and 200 MPa; treatment times of 5, 7.5, and 10 min; and material-to-liquid ratios of 1:1, 1:3, and 1:5.

Anisotropy is one of the concerns of titanium matrix composites (TMCs) due to its impact on subsequent processing and safe serving. In this work, we demonstrate that simply by using cross-rolling (CR) rather than unidirectional rolling (UDR), significant plastic anisotropy can be removed and an excellent strength-ductility combination can be achieved in a new TiB-reinforced TMC (TiB-TMC). We attribute the occurrence of plastic anisotropy after UDR to be the strong rolling-induced orientation distribution of TiB whiskers parallel to the rolling direction (RD), while the elimination of anisotropy is therefore confirmed to be caused by the loss of such an orientation relationship.

A novel hollow capacitive wind pressure sensor is for the first time proposed. The sensing element of the proposed sensor uses a non-parallel plate variable capacitor, whose movable electrode plate uses a transversely uniformly loaded annular conductive membrane with a fixed outer edge and a rigid inner edge (acting as the wind pressure sensitive element of the sensor). Due to the unique hollow configuration of the proposed sensor, it can be used alone to detect the pressure exerted by fast-moving air in the atmosphere or by fast-moving air or gas, etc.

: This study aimed to explore the impact of social anxiety on depression among high school students and examine the parallel mediating roles of social comparison and social support. : A total of 806 rural high school students were surveyed using the Short Mood and Feelings Questionnaire, the Social Phobia Inventory, the Chinese version of the Social Comparison Orientation Scale, and the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support. : Social anxiety and social comparison were significantly and positively correlated with depression, while social support exhibited a significant negative correlation with depression.
