Modern Graywacke-Type Sands.

Science

Published: December 1964

A preliminary study of more than 100 deep-sea cores from abyssal plains has revealed two examples of recent muddy sands of the graywacke type which, together with the microcrystalline matrix, form a bimodal-size distribution sands have a well-sorted framework of quartz, feldspar, and rock fragments which, together with the microcrystalline matrix, form a bimodal-size distribution that is also typical of ancient graywackes. The matrix is considered to be primary.

A low-temperature-tolerant and non-flammable cellulose/HEC/PVA eutectogel for flexible asymmetric supercapacitors.

Asymmetric supercapacitors (ASCs), which combine the advantages of electric double-layer capacitors and pseudocapacitors, have attracted more and more research interest. However, the performance of water-based ASCs often faces the challenge of electrolyte freezing at low temperatures. To resolve the problem, a ternary deep eutectic solvent (DES) with an eutectic point of less than -100 °C was first prepared.

The effect of filler particle size on API homogeneity of controlled release formulations via continuous twin-screw wet granulation.

Article Synopsis
  • Previous research indicated that CR formulations using HPMC via twin-screw wet granulation resulted in uneven distribution of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) within granules due to rapid hydration and swelling properties of HPMC.
  • Attempts to improve uniformity by varying the liquid-to-solid ratio, modifying screw configurations, or using different fillers were unsuccessful.
  • The study found that using smaller particle size fillers improved API distribution in granules compared to larger fillers, with microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) yielding the most consistent results, while other filler combinations sometimes led to underdosing issues in smaller granule fractions.

Rice cultivated in seemingly arsenic (As) uncontaminated soils may accumulate As levels exceeding food safety standards, a phenomenon often overlooked by current soil quality standards. This study investigated the effectiveness of iron (Fe)-inspired barriers in limiting As dissolution and translocation in uncontaminated paddy fields, addressing the need for safe rice production under global warming and extreme weather pressures. We hypothesized that Fe-based materials could inspire Fe barriers in the soil-rice system.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates how different ratios of excipients like lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, and dicalcium phosphate affect the swelling and drug release of propranolol hydrochloride (PPN) from polyethylene oxide (PEO) matrix compacts.
  • The researchers used microscopy to analyze the compact surfaces and conducted dissolution studies to assess how the excipient ratios influenced hydration rates and drug release dynamics.
  • Findings indicate that modifying the amount of PEO and the type or ratio of excipients can significantly affect drug release rates, highlighting the innovative use of UV dissolution imaging for optimizing formulations.
