A depth-age scale and an accumulation history for the Holocene have been established on the Greenland Ice Sheet Project 2 (GISP2) deep core, providing the most continuously dated record of annual layer accumulation currently available. The depth-age scale was obtained with the use of various independent techniques to count annual layers in the core. An annual record of surface accumulation during the Holocene was obtained by correcting the observed layer thicknesses for flow-thinning. Fluctuations in accumulation provide a continuous and detailed record of climate variability over central Greenland during the Holocene. Climate events, including "Little Ice Age" type events, are examined.

Permafrost underlies approximately one quarter of Northern Hemisphere terrestrial surfaces and contains 25-50% of the global soil carbon (C) pool. Permafrost soils and the C stocks within are vulnerable to ongoing and future projected climate warming. The biogeography of microbial communities inhabiting permafrost has not been examined beyond a small number of sites focused on local-scale variation.

Objective: Extensive deep partial-thickness burns still seriously challenge the surgeon's abilities. This study aimed to assess the impact of early dermabrasion combined with porcine acellular dermal matrix (ADM) in extensive deep dermal burns.
Methods: From September 2009 to September 2013, a total of 60 adult patients sustained greater than 50% total body surface area (TBSA) burn by hot water or gas explosion were divided into three groups based on dermabrasion: group A (early dermabrasion and porcine ADM), group B (early dermabrasion and nano-silver dressings), and group C (conservative group).

Dosimetry and other techniques provide depth-age profiles in materials as diverse as sediments and ice. A frequent characteristic feature of these plots is a non-linear curve with a foreshortened depth scale. Whilst the age analyses from the dosimetry do not present a problem, many authors have made subsequent assumptions on the basis of the curve shape with respect to climate and environmental changes.
