Purpose: In vitro, oocyte development is susceptible to oxidative stress, which leads to endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. This study investigated whether the antioxidant melatonin attenuates ER stress and maintains oocyte-cumulus cell communication during the in vitro growth (IVG) of bovine oocytes.
Methods: Oocyte-granulosa cell complexes (OGCs) were harvested from slaughterhouse-derived ovaries and grown in vitro for 5 d at 38.

Heat stress negatively affects the reproductive function of in animals and humans. Although a relationship between heat and oxidative stress has been suggested, the underlying mechanism has not been sufficiently examined in reproduction-related cells. Therefore, we aimed to investigate whether heat stress induces oxidative stress using a variety of reproduction-related cells including bovine placental and cumulus-granulosa cells, human cell lines derived from cervical and endometrial cancers, and fibroblasts derived from endometrium.

Suboptimal culture conditions during in vitro maturation (IVM) affect oocyte developmental competence and the viability of the resulting embryo. Three-dimensional (3D) culture systems provide a more biologically appropriate environment compared to traditional two-dimensional (2D) cultures. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of liquid marble (LM) microbioreactors as a 3D culture system on IVM and the subsequent embryo development of prepubertal goat oocytes.

Oocyte quality can affect mammal fertilization rate, early embryonic development, pregnancy maintenance, and fetal development. Oxidative stress induced by reactive oxygen species (ROS) is one of the most important causes of poor oocyte maturation in vitro. To reduce the degree of cellular damage caused by ROS, supplementation with the antioxidant N-Acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) serves as an effective pathway to alleviate glutathione (GSH) depletion during oxidative stress.

Ovarian endometrioma (OEM), a particularly severe form of endometriosis, is an oestrogen-dependent condition often associated with pain and infertility. The mechanisms by which OEM impairs fertility, particularly through its direct impact on oocyte-cumulus cell (CC) communication and related pathways, remain poorly understood. This study investigates the impact of OEM on oocyte-CC communication and explores melatonin's therapeutic potential.
