Influence of non-clostridial anaerobic infection on the course of chronic pulmonary tuberculosis caused by intrapleural administration of BCG used in a vaseline-lanolin mixture was studied experimentally on guinea pigs. Administration of Bacteroides fragilis in the presence of a mild tuberculous inflammation aggravates the course of a specific process promoting pleural empyema development, increase in the size of pulmonary granuloma, extension of pathologic changes into the parenchymatous organs and aggravation of a nonspecific inflammatory reaction. Animals with mixed infection exhibited a longer duration and higher level of M. tuberculosis and B. fragilis excretion than those having a mono-infection. The findings suggest M. tuberculosis and B. fragilis synergism.

This case report presents a 77-year-old female with dementia and hypertension who experienced reduced consciousness during hydrotherapy. She was found to have hypotension, a low Glasgow Coma Scale score, and right thigh pain. Blood work showed acute kidney injury and elevated inflammatory markers, while imaging revealed surgical emphysema in the right thigh and pelvis without trauma.

Background: Gas-producing perianal abscess raises the possibility of clostridial infection, with Clostridium perfringens being the most common causative agent, which is highly lethal if untreated timely. As the treatment of clostridial infections often differs from that of non-clostridial infections, which they may closely resemble, the importance of accurate pathogenic organism identification cannot be overemphasized. The 16S rDNA of bacteria is highly conserved within a species and among species of the same genus but demonstrates substantial variation between different species, thus making it a suitable genomic candidate for bacterial detection and identification.

Background: The adhesion ability of microorganisms to the surface of titanium miniplates and screws is one of factors in the development of purulent-inflammatory complications in the postoperative period. One of the solutions to this problem is the use of an ion-plasma coating of mini-plates and screws.
Objective: The aim of the study was to prove a decrease adhesion level of pathogenic and conditionally pathogenic bacterium to samples of titanium mini-plates with ion-plasma coating, compared with samples without coating.

Background: Chronic bacterial prostatitis (CBP) and chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome IIIa (CP/CPPS IIIa) are separate nosologies defined diagnostic verification criteria according to the NIH-NIDDK classification (1995). The identification of enterobacteria in the prostatic secretion (PS) has long been a criterion for the diagnosis of CBP, while PS in patients suffering CP/CPPS IIIa was considered as "sterile". However, the introduction of various methods of PS`s in-depth analysis and UPOINTS classification (2010) development with the allocation of site I (infection) allows us to consider the infectious factor as an etiological predictor of the initiation of inflammation in the prostate with CP/CPPS IIIa.
