The VEGA balloons provided a long-term record of vertical wind fluctuations in a planetary atmosphere other than Earth's. The vertical winds were calculated from the observed displacement of the balloon relative to its equilibrium float altitude. The winds were intermittent; a large burst lasted several hours, and the peak velocity was 3 meters per second.

Odor impact patterns and health risks of various enterprises in the rubber product manufacturing industry.

J Hazard Mater

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Odor Pollution Control, Ministry of Ecology and Environment, Tianjin Academy of Eco-environmental Sciences, Tianjin 300191, China; Tianjin Sinodour Environmental Technology Co., Ltd., Tianjin 300191, China.

The rubber product manufacturing (RPM) industry generates a large number of odor complaints because persistent and distinctive volatile compounds are released during the associated processes. Such compounds represent a nuisance and may pose health risks to nearby residents. Extensive monitoring and sampling identified 146 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from 20 enterprises across 6 subcategories of the RPM industry.

Accurate statistical modeling of wind speed variability is crucial for assessing wind energy potential, particularly in regions with low wind speeds and significant calm hours. This study evaluates the Champernowne distribution as a novel model for wind speed analysis, comparing its performance with the two-parameter Weibull, three-parameter Weibull, and Rayleigh-Rice distributions. Wind speed data at 10 m hub height over three years (2021-2023) from Ben Guerir, Morocco, were analyzed using statistical metrics such as Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Mean Bias Error (MBE), Coefficient of Determination (R2), Akaike Information Criterion (AIC), and Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC).

Land use and land cover changes (LULCC) alter local surface attributes, thereby modifying energy balance and material exchanges, ultimately impacting meteorological parameters and air quality. The North China Plain (NCP) has undergone rapid urbanization in recent decades, leading to dramatic changes in land use and land cover. This study utilizes the 2020 land use and land cover data obtained from the MODIS satellite to replace the default 2001 data in the Weather Research and Forecasting-Community Multiscale Air Quality (WRF-CMAQ) model.

Understanding the kinematics of aerosol horizontal transport and vertical mixing near the surface, within the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL), and in the overlying free troposphere (FT) is critical for various applications, including air quality and weather forecasting, aviation, road safety, and dispersion modeling. Empirical evidence of aerosol mixing processes within the ABL during synoptic-scale events over arid and semiarid regions (i.e.

With the vigorous development of maritime trade, the frequency band from 100 to 1500 Hz of shallow-sea ambient noise is not only affected by surface wind-induced noise but also the contribution of ship noise. Shallow-sea ambient noise can be described by a linear combination of surface wind-induced noise sources and ship noise sources. By using the correspondence between the real part of the vertical coherence and vertical energy flux, this work establishes a combined noise source model based on vertical coherence.
