Electrophoretic evidence revealed the common occurrence of an all-female species of Menidia (Pisces: Atherinidae) at two localities separated by 280 kilometers on the Gulf Coast of Texas. This finding adds significantly to the known taxonomic spectrum of unisexuality in fishes and demonstrates that unisexuality may be more common among fishes that do not bear live young than is generally suspected.

Increased temperatures related to climate change have elevated pest activity, resulting in an escalation of pesticide use. Gene regulatory divergence is thought to play an important role in adaptation, yet its extent and underlying mechanisms remain largely elusive for local adaptation with gene flow. Local adaptation is widespread in marine species despite generally high connectivity and is often associated with tightly linked genomic architectures, such as chromosomal inversions. To investigate gene regulatory evolution under gene flow and the role of inversions associated with local adaptation to a steep thermal gradient, we generated RNA-seq data from Atlantic silversides (Menidia menidia) from two locally adapted populations and their F1 hybrids, reared under two temperatures.

Salinity has been reported to impact the octanol-water partition coefficient of organic contaminants entering aquatic ecosystems. However, limited data are available on the impacts of salinity on their partitioning from the aqueous phase to adjacent organic compartments. The pesticides bifenthrin, chlorpyrifos, dicloran, myclobutanil, penconazole, and triadimefon were used to investigate the effects of salinity on their partitioning to capelin (Mallotus villosus) eggs in 5 practical salinity units (PSU) versus 25 PSU artificial seawater (ASW).
