The crystalline nanoparticles can be assembled by 3-bromo- and 3-iodo-carbazole (3-BrC and 3-IC) based on the halogen-halogen interaction in suspension aqueous solutions. As the colloid-like suspension was dropped onto film the particles further aggregate as rod-like structures with size of 3 microm in length and 1 microm in width. The halogen-halogen interaction are well proved by single crystal X-ray data, and the data reveal that each bromine atom interacts with the neighboring two, and each iodine atom interacts with the neighboring five and I-I interaction is stronger than that of Br-Br. Both 3-BrC and 3-IC can emit novel self-protective room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) in the range of 480 to near 800 nm at the excitation of 338 nm, and 3-BrC shows additionally the delayed fluorescence emission from 350 to 480 nm, both possessing the charge-transfer character caused by halogenations. RTP decay possesses the bi-exponential property and RTP lifetimes are 3.37, 31.16 ms (with ethanol) and 1.52, 30.83 ms (with THF) for 3-BrC or 3.53, 14.95 ms (with ethanol) and 1.68 ms, 13.74 ms (with THF) for 3-IC, showing " heavier atom ", I, makes intersystem crossing rate k(ISC) from both S1 to T1 and T1 to S(0) faster. For the results, the detection limits of 3-BrC and 3-IC can reach 2.4 x 10(-7) and 9.0 x 10(-8)mol L(-1), respectively, with wider linear range and higher precision compared with other systems.

Dion-Jacobson (DJ) perovskites are promising alternatives for Ruddlesden-Popper (RP) perovskites to fabricate blue perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) due to their favorable structural and charge properties. However, the relatively weak hydrogen bond between the bridging diammonium group and perovskite poses huge challenges for regulating crystallization and defect density, leading to an undesirable film quality and device performance. Herein, we report the successful optimization of DJ perovskite films by introducing a new type of cesium octafluoroadipate (CsOFAA) precursor, which could strongly anchor the perovskite through coordination bonds and halogen-halogen bonds.

In the framework of SMD approach a systematic computational study of structural, electronic and thermodynamic properties of molecular complexes of Cl, ICl and I with series of N-containing Lewis bases in solvents of different polarity was carried out. Results indicate that molecular complexes of Cl with strong and medium-strong LB undergo spontaneous ionization in the acetonitrile solution. The increase of the solvent polarity can change the nature of interaction in X'XLB systems from molecular X'X ← LB donor-acceptor complexes to 3-center 4-electron bound X'→X ← LB in solvents of medium polarity and to the contact ion pairs X'→[XLB] in polar solvents.

Photosensitizing assemblies based on twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT) active donor-acceptor-donor (D-A-D) system having bromine atoms at the periphery have been developed. Through strategic incorporation of bromine atoms at the -position to the nitrogen-carbon bonds of phenyl rings at the periphery, halogen-halogen interactions are induced in nanoassemblies in HO:DMSO (99:1) solution. Hence, the anti-heavy atom effect is induced, and the limitations of TICT (dark excited state) and heavy atom effect (triplet deactivation via radiative decay) could be overcome.

Halogen-halogen interactions play a pivotal role in the formation and stability of supramolecular assemblies. Herein, we investigate the assembly dynamics and dissociation pathways of linear supramolecular polymers based on pillar[5]arene-mediated by guest halogen-halogen interactions (C-X × X-C) in both the solution and solid states. The structure of the solid-state supramolecular assembly was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.
