We have fabricated all-dielectric high-Q optical pillar resonators with embedded colloidal CdSe/ZnS quantum dots or rods as light emitters by focused ion beam milling. Three-dimensional light confinement and distinct pillar microcavity modes are observed. Results from a waveguide model for the mode patterns and their spectral positions are in excellent agreement with the experimental data. Cavities with elliptical cross sections show higher quality factors in the short axis direction than do circular resonators of the same cross-sectional area.

Alternatives to nonbiodegradable synthetic plastics for food packaging include films made from biopolymers that are nontoxic and environment-friendly. In this study, carnauba wax (CW) and nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots (NG) as functional additives were utilized in the production of pectin/gelatin (PG) film. NG was synthesized through the microwave method, using acetic acid as the carbon source, giving size, and zeta potential of 1.

A novel fluorescence sensing nanoplatform (CDs/AuNCs@ZIF-8) encapsulating carbon dots (CDs) and gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) within a zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) was developed for ratiometric detection of formaldehyde (FA) in the medium of hydroxylamine hydrochloride (NHOH·HCl). The nanoplatform exhibited pink fluorescence due to the aggregation-induced emission (AIE) effect of AuNCs and the internal filtration effect (IFE) between AuNCs and CDs. Upon reaction between NHOH·HCl and FA, a Schiff base formed via aldehyde-diamine condensation, releasing hydrochloric acid.

Based on the enhanced peroxidase-like activity of carbon dots nanozymes (CDszymes), with a specific oxidation reaction of D-amino acid oxidase catalysing the formation of HO from D-amino acid, an ultrasensitive sensing platform, was constructed for the quantitative detection of D-amino acids in saliva. With the increase of D-amino acids concentration, the blue color of catalytic product gradually deepend, the fluorescence CDszymes gradually quenched, and the temperature gradually increased. Using D-alanine as D-amino acid models, the detection limits of D-alanine in colorimetric/photothermal/fluorescent mode were 0.

Currently, CsPbI quantum dots (QDs) based light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are not well suited for achieving high efficiency and operational stability due to the binary-precursor method and purification process, which often results in the nonstoichiometric ratio of Cs/Pb/I. This imbalance leads to amounts of iodine vacancies, inducing severe non-radiative recombination processes and phase transitions of QDs. Herein, red-emitting CsPbI QDs are reported with excellent optoelectronic properties and stability based on the synergistic effects of halide-rich modulation passivation and lattice repair.

Designing cost-effective electrocatalysts with fast reaction kinetics and high stability is an outstanding challenge in green hydrogen generation through overall water splitting (OWS). Layered double hydroxide (LDH) heterostructure materials are promising candidates to catalyze both oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), the two OWS half-cell reactions. This work develops a facile hydrothermal route to synthesiz hierarchical heterostructure MoS@NiFeCo-LDH and MoS@NiFeCo-Mo(doped)-LDH electrocatalysts, which exhibit extremely good OER and HER performance as witnessed by their low IR-corrected overpotentials of 156 and 61 mV with at a current density of 10 mA cm under light assistance.
