Lead (Pb) shot were administered orally to young chickens to determine the effects on red blood cells (RBCs). The concentrations of Pb in the blood of young chickens rose rapidly after Pb administration and were maintained at high levels for several days. The number of RBCs with pycnotic nuclei, reticulocytes and enucleated RBCs increased concurrently. Pycnotic nuclei were surrounded by enlarged nucleolemmal cisternae, which sometimes opened to the extracellular space. Gel electrophoresis showed that the presence of pycnotic nuclei was not associated with DNA fragmentation typical of apoptosis. It was concluded that exposure to lead shot changes nuclear morphology in the peripheral blood of domestic fowl.

Article Synopsis
  • The lumpfish is being researched for its potential in aquaculture, especially for controlling sea lice in salmon farms, by examining its immune response through Melanomacrophage centers (MMCs) in the liver.
  • Liver samples from both hatchery-produced and wild lumpfish were analyzed using various staining techniques to assess MMC density and health indicators, revealing significant lipid accumulation in hatchery males.
  • The study found that while hatchery-produced males had more monocytes/macrophages and necrotic areas, MMC density was similar across fish origins and genders, suggesting MMCs may not be effective health markers in lumpfish.

Aim Of The Study: Methotrexate (MTX) causes oxidative stress-related liver damage. Our objective was to investigate the protective effects of vitamin E against MTX-induced hepatotoxicity through histopathological methods and flow cytometry.

Material And Methods: The rats were assigned to four groups: Control (2 ml saline for 5 days), MTX (20 mg/kg intraperitoneally (i.

Objective: The current investigation was aimed to determine the hepatoprotective benefits of Swertiamarin (ST) administration against nicotine-induced hepatotoxicity in SD rats.

Material And Methods: A total of 48 adult male SD rats were allocated into six groups using a fully randomised approach. As a control, group I was given oral (PO) normal saline.

Objective: This study aimed to demonstrate whether fullerenol C60, sevoflurane anesthesia, or a combination of both had protective effects on the liver and kidneys in lower extremity ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) in mice with streptozocin-induced diabetes.

Methods: A total of 46 Swiss albino mice were divided into six groups as follows: control group (group C, n=7), diabetes group (group D, n=7), diabetes-ischemia/reperfusion (group DIR, n=8), diabetes-ischemia/reperfusion-fullerenol C60 (group DIR-FC60, n=8), diabetes-ischemia/reperfusion-sevoflurane (group DIR-S, n=8), and the diabetes-ischemia/reperfusion-fullerenol C60-sevoflurane (group DIR-S-FC60, n=8). Fullerenol C60 (100mg/kg) was administered intraperitoneally 30 min before the ischemia-reperfusion procedure to the fullerenol groups (DIR-FC60 and DIR-S-FC60).

Background: Caffeine (Cf) antagonizes the adenosine receptors and has neuroprotective properties. The effect of Cf has been seen on stress-induced deficits of cognitive. In this study, we have investigated the effect of Cf on learning and memory functions induced by social isolation (SI) stress.
