Electron shuttle instability for nano electromechanical mass sensing.

Published: September 2007

We discuss the potential use of the electromechanical shuttle instability in suspended nanostructures (e.g., nanotubes or nanowires) for nanomechanical sensing. The tunneling-assisted (shuttle-like) electron transport mechanism is addressed from a mechanical and electromechanical point of view, showing strong dependencies on the fundamental frequency, the mechanical restoring and damping force, and the electromechanical charging of the suspended nanostructure. We propose to use these nonlinear dependencies to sense minute mass (and tension) changes. Therefore, we introduce a conceptual sensing device and investigate its operation in the frame of a simple model system. Finally, we discuss different measurement techniques and report on high sensitivities (e.g., 1 nA/zeptogram (zg), or 1 mV/zg depending on the measurement technique) and potential resolutions in the range of 10 zg (10(-23) kg).

A significant barrier to the commercialization of solution-processed perovskite solar cells (PSCs) is the chemical instability of the components in precursor solutions under ambient conditions. This instability leads to solution aging, which subsequently diminishes the quality and reproducibility of the resulting PSCs. Inspired by recent published works, which focused on the deprotonation of organic cations, the oxidation of iodide, and the formation of undesired byproducts, we here systematically summarize and provide an outlook on the research directions and perspectives of the origin of precursor solution aging and countermeasures, such as using stabilizing additives, redox shuttles, Schiff base reactions, and green solvents.

Room-temperature sodium-sulfur (RT Na-S) batteries that typically feature multielectron conversion chemistries can allow an ultrahigh specific capacity of 1675 mA h g and a high energy density of 1275 W h kg but unfortunately suffer from a lot of intractable challenges from sulfur cathodes. These issues cover the poor electronic conductivity of pristine sulfur and solid products, the severe shuttle effect of polysulfides, and the sluggish redox kinetics, The shuttling behavior of polysulfides always leads to cathode/anode instability and performance degeneration. Recently, the emerging catalysis strategy has been demonstrated as a reliable pathway to tackle the central issues caused by sulfur electrochemistry and revitalize RT Na-S batteries.

Background: Generalized Joint Hypermobility (GJH) offers flexibility that could enhance motor activities. However, if it leads to injury and pain, it increases functional difficulties and activity limitations. The far-reaching consequences of activity limitations and restricted participation include poor physical fitness and diminished quality of life.

Extracellular Vesicles from Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells Exhibit a Unique MicroRNA and CircRNA Signature.

Extracellular vesicles (EV) have emerged as promising cell-free therapeutics in regenerative medicine. However, translating primary cell line-derived EV to clinical applications requires large-scale manufacturing and several challenges, such as replicative senescence, donor heterogeneity, and genetic instability. To address these limitations, we used a reprogramming approach to generate human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSC) from the young source of cord blood mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (CBMSC).

Conductive metal-organic frameworks (C-MOFs) have received extensive interest in high-performance zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) owing to multi-redox sites and high electrical conductivity. Here, we present a π-d C-MOF by coordinating 2,3,5,6-tetraaminobenzoquinone (TABQ) ligands with Cu ions (2D Cu-TABQ) acting as cathodes for ZIBs. Benefiting from a triple active center (Cu, C=O, and C=N), 2D Cu-TABQ shows an ultra-high reversible capacity of 297.
