The reaction of chiral (2R,1'S)- or (2S,1'S)-2-(1-aminoalkyl)epoxides 1 or 2 with CO2, generated from acidic treatment of an aqueous solution of NaHCO3 at room temperature, efficiently afforded enantiopure cyclic carbonates 3 or 4, respectively, with total selectivity. Compounds 3 and 4 were readily transformed into the corresponding diols 7 and 8 by reaction with LiAlH4 or by basic hydrolysis. When compounds 3 or 4 were allowed to react with methyllithium at -78 degrees C, O1-acetylalkane-1,2-diols 9 and 10 were obtained with total or high selectivity.

Background: Rare bleeding disorders (RBDs) include fibrinogen (Factor I), prothrombin (Factor II), Factor V(FV), combined Factor V and Factor VIII, Factor VII, Factor X, Factor XI, Factor XII, and Factor XIII deficiencies. This group accounts for 3-5% of all factor deficiencies. Different symptoms may occur, ranging from mild or moderate bleeding to serious and life-threatening bleeding, which may not be related to the factor level.

Article Synopsis
  • Black rice, known for its rich nutritional profile, has been historically cultivated in Asia, particularly China, but struggles with low production and consumption due to subpar cooking and eating quality.
  • Researchers explored the use of the Rice Taste Evaluation System (RTES) to effectively assess these qualities, testing 775 samples from various accessions.
  • The study found a strong correlation between RTES results and sensory evaluation scores, suggesting that RTES is a reliable tool for evaluating the cooking and eating quality of black rice, which could aid in breeding and other applications.

Background: Despite constant improvements, incontinence is one of the most relevant and quality-of-life-reducing side effects of radical prostatectomy (RP) and, in addition to patient-specific factors such as age, the experience of the surgeon/center and the surgical technique used play an important role.

Aims: To present current real-world data on short-term incontinence after RP from one of the largest German rehabilitation centers in 2022 and to compare it to the results from the same institution in 2016.

Methods And Results: Retrospective, unicentric, univariate analysis of data from 1394 men after RP in 2022 on admission and discharge from the rehabilitation clinic.
