Two novel lactones, Cephalosporolides H (1) and 1 (2), were isolated from the lyophilized culture broth of the marine-derived fungus, Penicillium sp. The structures were elucidated on the basis of extensive 1D- and 2D-NMR, as well as HRESI-MS spectroscopic analyses. The relative stereochemistries of the compounds were assessed by comparison of the NOESY analysis and spectral data with those in the literature.

Eudesmane-type sesquiterpene lactone isoalantolactone 1 is of great interest due to its availability, biological activity and synthetic application. Respective series of original spirocyclic (11S,5') (1,2,3-triazoline-eudesma-4,15-enolides) and (11S)-aziridine-eudesma-4,15-enolides were efficiently synthesized via a chemoselective 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction of organic azides to the exocyclic double bond of the lactone ring of isoalantolactone or 13E-(aryl)isoalantolactones by heating in DMF or toluene. The thermal reactions of isoalantolactone with benzyl azide, 2-azidoethanol, or n-butyl azide in 2-methoxyethanol afforded 13-(alkyamino)isoalantolactones formed as a mixture of (Z) and (E)-isomers.

A novel sesquiterpene lactone derivative, vernonolide A (), featuring an unprecedented carbon skeleton, along with its plausible biosynthetic precursor, vercinolide I (), and eight known sesquiterpene lactones (-) were isolated and characterized from the whole plants of (L.). The structures of and were elucidated using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopic analysis and calculated and experimental electronic circular dichroism spectra.

We previously examined the antitumor effects of short interfering RNA nanoparticles targeting mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) in an orthotopic pancreatic cancer mouse model. We herein report the inhibitory effects of the mTOR inhibitor rapamycin on tumor growth in a novel established mouse model of pancreatic cancer using human pancreatic cancer cell line-derived organoids. Gemcitabine, 5-fluorouracil, and gemcitabine plus nab-paclitaxel are clinically used to treat advanced pancreatic cancer.

Therapeutic and misuse of veterinary drugs, such as antibiotics, can increase the potential risk of residue contamination in animal-derived food products. For milk, these residual antibiotics can have an impact on efficiency in dairy processing factories, as well as economic loss, and can also cause side effects on consumer health. Lateral flow immunoassays (LFIAs) are gaining popularity for their ease of use, low cost and their fulfilment to the REASSURED (real-time connection/monitoring, easy sampling, affordable, specific, user-friendly, rapid/robust, equipment free, deliverable to end user) criteria.

Budding yeast cells multiply by asymmetric cell division. During this process, the cell organelles are transported by myosin motors along the actin cytoskeleton into the growing bud, while at the same time some organelles must be retained in the mother cell. The ordered partitioning of organelles depends on highly regulated binding of motor proteins to cargo membranes.
