We present three cases of typhoid fever imported to Poland from India in the beginning of the year 2006 treated in our Zoonosis and Tropical Medicine Department. Two of them, with mild course of the disease, were vaccinated with Typhim Vi vaccine, the third didn't obtain any, and had very heavy, almost classical course of the disease. All of them behaved in India in improper way, probably also because were convinced they were protected by the vaccine. We emphasize that proper prophylaxis against typhoid fever for travelers should consist of vaccination with two vaccines, oral Ty 21a and parenteral Typhim Vi and it doesn't release travelers from avoiding risky behavior.

Introduction: Aedes-borne arboviral infections, both imported and autochthonous, are reported in Europe. We evaluated the landscape of these infections in Europe over 23 years and attempted to pre-empt the trajectory of impact of these infections in the climatic context of Aedes mosquito expansion in Europe.

Methods: This systematic review was conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines and registered in Prospero (CRD42023360259).

Background: India is committed to malaria elimination by the year 2030. According to the classification of malaria endemicity, the National Capital Territory of Delhi falls under category 1, with an annual parasite incidence of <1, and was targeted for elimination by 2022. Among others, population movement across states is one of the key challenges for malaria control, as it can result in imported malaria, thus introducing local transmission in an area nearing elimination.

Background/objectives: Marburg virus (MARV) is the etiological agent of Marburg Virus Disease (MVD), a rare but severe hemorrhagic fever disease with high case fatality rates in humans. Smaller outbreaks have frequently been reported in countries in Africa over the last few years, and confirmed human cases outside Africa are, so far, exclusively imported by returning travelers. Over the previous years, MARV has also spread to non-endemic African countries, demonstrating its potential to cause epidemics.

Rapidly identifying Anopheles-carrying malaria parasites is crucial for imported malaria prevention. However, suitable methods still lack quick detection in limited-resource situations. In this study, disc microfluidic isothermal amplification integrating loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) and microfluidic chip technology were applied to develop rapid and precise detection with low resource requirements.

The increasing importance of Dengue virus infection in Saudi Arabia: A review.

Virus Res

January 2025

Department of Clinical Laboratories Sciences, College of Applied Medical Sciences, Taif University, Taif, 21944, Saudi Arabia. Electronic address:

Exacerbated by the rise of global warming due to climate change, as well as ease of international travel and mass migration, the dengue virus infection remains of particular economic and global concern. Of note, the emergence of the first case of dengue viral infection occurred in Saudi Arabia in the 1990s, and since then there has been a steady rise in the number of cases. Moreover, the arrival of imported dengue virus variants poses a significant challenge to dengue fever surveillance and control efforts within the region, especially as Saudi Arabia attracts millions of religious pilgrims throughout the year.
