Mesoporous Lanthanum-Doped Magnesium Phosphate Nanopowders Promote Healing of Critical-Size Bone Defects: An In Vivo Study.

J Biomed Mater Res B Appl Biomater

January 2025

Refractories, Ceramics and Building Materials Department, Advanced Materials Technology and Mineral Resources Research Institute, National Research Centre, Cairo, Egypt.

Treating severe bone deformities and abnormalities continues to be a major clinical hurdle, necessitating the adoption of suitable materials that can actively stimulate bone regeneration. Magnesium phosphate (MP) is a material that has the ability to stimulate the growth of bones. The current study involved the synthesis of mesoporous MP and lanthanum (La)-doped nanopowders using a chemical precipitation approach.

Optimization-based two-dimensional symmetric tossing motion prediction and validation.

Proc Inst Mech Eng H

December 2024

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Human-Centric Design Research Lab, Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX, USA.

Human motion has been analyzed for decades based on experimentally collected subject data, serving various purposes, from enhancing athletic performance to assisting patients' recovery in rehabilitation and many individuals can benefit significantly from study advancements. Human motion prediction, is a more challenging task because no experimental data are available in advance, particularly concerning repetitive tasks, such as box lifting and tossing, to prevent injury risks. Tossing, a common task in various industries, involves the simultaneous vertical and horizontal movement of objects but often results in bodily strain.

A Model to Predict the Risk of Adverse Ocular Outcomes in Pregnant Women.

Br J Hosp Med (Lond)

November 2024

Ophthalmology Department, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Major Obstetric Diseases, Guangdong Provincial Clinical Research Center for Obstetrics and Gynecology, The Third Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, Guangzhou, Guangdong, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Pregnancy can impact bodily functions, including eyesight, and conditions like preeclampsia and gestational diabetes are linked to eye changes during this time.
  • A study analyzed medical records of 760 pregnant women to identify maternal health factors affecting ocular risks using logistic regression and ROC curve analysis.
  • Key predictors for adverse ocular outcomes included eclampsia, gestational diabetes, chronic hypertension, and specific maternal characteristics, with ROC curves indicating moderate predictive accuracy.
