Objective: To explore the feasibility of transplantation of frozen autogenous mandible with delayed implantation.

Methods: Operations were performed to create two defects in the bilateral mandible of 16 dogs. The left defect was grafted by composite transplantation of frozen autogenous mandible (immersed in -196 degrees C liquid nitrogen) with fresh cancellous ilium (composite transplantation group, CTG). The right defect was grafted by fresh ilium (iliac transplantation group, ITG). Three months after transplantation one IMZ TPS dental implant was placed into the graft of each side. At 3, 6, 9, 12 weeks postoperatively, 4 animals were sacrificed respectively and the grafts with dental implant were harvested for gross observation, X-Ray examination and histological evaluation to compare peri-implant bone healing between composite transplantation group and iliac transplantation group.

Results: There was no absorbing bone density reducing image of peri-implant at each stage. The quantified X-Ray gray extent displayed obvious variation of interfacial bone density between two kinds of grafts at 3 weeks, 6 weeks and 9 weeks after implantation. The composite transplantation group obviously surpassed the iliac transplantation group. At 12 weeks after the implantation, there was no significant difference between the peri-implant bones of both sides. There was satisfactory osseointegration between the implants and the two kinds of grafts. The healing style of peri-implant bone was similar.

Conclusions: Good osseointegration was performed between the implant and the composite transplantation of frozen autogenous mandible following delayed implantation.

Background: Recent studies revealed an association between small kidney volume and progression of kidney dysfunction in particular settings such as kidney transplantation and transcatheter aortic valve implantation. We hypothesized that kidney volume was associated with the incidence of kidney-related adverse outcomes such as worsening renal function (WRF) in patients with acute heart failure (AHF).

Methods: This study was a single-center retrospective cohort study.

Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is associated with a high risk of hepatobiliary malignancy, especially cholangiocarcinoma (CCA). There are no good tumor markers to screen for CCA, and current recommendations for PSC monitoring are mainly based on expert opinions. The optimal strategy to assess disease progression and screen for CCA - the main cause of death of PSC patients - remains unclear.

Objectives: Recent research indicates that the plasma lipidome composition may undergo alterations following hemorrhagic stroke. Nevertheless, the causal inference between plasma lipidome and hemorrhagic stroke remains elusive.

Materials And Methods: Exposure data were achieved from a recent Genome-wide Association Study (GWAS) study of 179 lipid species involving 7,174 individuals, while the outcome data were obtained from the FinnGen consortium (R10), including intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), and non-traumatic intracranial hemorrhage (nITH).

Hyperoxaluria, including primary and secondary hyperoxaluria, is a disorder characterized by increased urinary oxalate excretion and could lead to recurrent calcium oxalate kidney stones, nephrocalcinosis and eventually end stage renal disease. For secondary hyperoxaluria, high dietary oxalate (HDOx) or its precursors intake is a key reason. Recently, accumulated studies highlight the important role of gut microbiota in the regulation of oxalate homeostasis.

Machine learning and deep learning to improve prevention of anastomotic leak after rectal cancer surgery.

World J Gastrointest Surg

Department of Minimally Invasive Digestive Surgery, Antoine-Béclère Hospital, Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de ParisClamart 92140, Haute-Seine, France.

Anastomotic leakage (AL) is a significant complication following rectal cancer surgery, adversely affecting both quality of life and oncological outcomes. Recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), particularly machine learning and deep learning, offer promising avenues for predicting and preventing AL. These technologies can analyze extensive clinical datasets to identify preoperative and perioperative risk factors such as malnutrition, body composition, and radiological features.
