Purpose: We compared the efficacy of naftopidil with that of tamsulosin hydrochloride for 154 symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) patients who also suffered from overactive bladder (OAB) symptoms.
Materials And Methods: Naftopidil and tamsulosin hydrochloride were administered for eight weeks. The international prostate symptom score (IPSS), QOL index, maximum flow rate (Q(max)), residual urine volume (RUV) and side effect profile were determined before the administration and after eight weeks of treatment.
Results: In the naftopidil group, seven parameters of IPSS and QOL index were improved significantly at the endpoint compared to the baseline. In the tamsulosin group, all parameters except frequency and straining were also improved. Both drugs improved the Q(max) at the endpoint, too. The RUV did not change in both groups. Naftopidil was also superior to tamsulosin hydrochloride regarding general treatment outcome by the Japanese clinical guideline of urinary disturbance.
Conclusions: This study demonstrated that naftopidil was clinically efficacious in the treatment of BPH patients with OAB.

Purpose: To examine the safety and efficiency of a single-drug therapy with silodosin or tamsulosin versus combined therapy with silodosin plus tadalafil and tamsulosin plus tadalafil as a medical expulsive therapy (MET) for lower ureteral stones.
Methods: This research was a prospective randomized clinical trial carried out at Fayoum University Hospital, Egypt, over one year. Patients with lower ureteral stones (5-10 mm) were randomly allocated into one of four treatment groups.
Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) is an acute inflammatory polyradiculoneuropathy that affects the peripheral nervous system, predominantly impairing motor function. Pain, both somatic and neuropathic, is reported in 89% of cases and is refractory to first-line analgesics in most of these. We present the case of a 75-year-old woman with an acute presentation of areflexic flaccid tetraparesis compatible with GBS.

Background: Transanal endoscopic microsurgery is a treatment option for a wide range of rectal lesions. Postoperative urinary retention is a frequently associated complication. Some studies have suggested that the use of alpha-1-blockers may reduce the risk of postoperative urinary retention after hernia and colorectal surgery, but evidence is lacking.

TMEM16A, a key calcium-activated chloride channel, is crucial for many physiological and pathological processes such as cancer, hypertension, and osteoporosis, etc. However, the regulatory mechanism of TMEM16A is poorly understood, limiting the discovery of effective modulators. Here, we unveil an allosteric gating mechanism by presenting a high-resolution cryo-EM structure of TMEM16A in complex with a channel inhibitor that we identified, Tamsulosin, which is resolved at 2.

Introduction: Adverse events, such as erectile dysfunction (ED) and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), are significant concerns in prostate cancer (PCa) patients treated with Iodine 125 (I-125) low-dose rate (LDR) prostate brachytherapy (PB). Alpha antagonists and phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors are used to manage these events. The present study compared the efficacy of low-dose tadalafil with that of tamsulosin for concomitant ED and LUTS in PCa patients treated with I-125 LDR PB.
