Considering the severity of the HIV-1 subtype C epidemic, data on the epidemiology and distribution of HIV subtypes in India are relatively sparse. Keeping this in view, 28 env gene sequences from patients were sequenced and analyzed. The samples were collected over a period of 10 years from 1995 to 2004. Assessment of the interisolate genetic distances of the study isolates, which were all subtype C, showed interisolate distances varying from 2 to 19% (mean: 14%) with the maximum diversity observed in the samples collected in 2003-2004. Analysis of the phylogenetic relationships among subtype C env sequences from six different countries and our study isolates revealed an overall star-like phylogeny with almost all sequences from India forming a monophyletic lineage. A lower diversity within the immunodominant epitopes was found. The data generated from this study should prove valuable for the production of vaccine against subtype C.

Introduction: ENTV (Enzootic Nasal Tumor Virus) and JSRV (Jaagsiekte Sheep Retrovirus) are β-retroviruses responsible for respiratory cancers in sheep and goats. In this study, we analyzed the genetic features of the sheep and goat β-Retroviruses (29 JSRV and 24 ENTV strains) circulating in France to identify molecular signatures associated with disease severity in flocks.
Methods: We developed a highly specific PCR to amplify and sequence exogenous targeted regions or near full length proviruses based on limited discriminating motifs along their genomes.

There is limited data on human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) evolutionary trends in African populations. We evaluated changes in HIV viral diversity and genetic divergence in southern Uganda over a 24-year period spanning the introduction and scale-up of HIV prevention and treatment programs using HIV sequence and survey data from the Rakai Community Cohort Study, an open longitudinal population-based HIV surveillance cohort. (p24) and (gp41) HIV data were generated from people living with HIV (PLHIV) in 31 inland semi-urban trading and agrarian communities (1994-2018) and four hyperendemic Lake Victoria fishing communities (2011-2018) under continuous surveillance.
