We present 2D and 3D simulations of the collapse of rotating stellar iron cores in general relativity employing a nuclear equation of state and an approximate treatment of deleptonization. We compare fully general relativistic and conformally flat evolutions and find that the latter treatment is sufficiently accurate for the core-collapse supernova problem. We focus on gravitational wave (GW) emission from rotating collapse, bounce, and early postbounce phases. Our results indicate that the GW signature of these phases is much more generic than previously estimated. We also track the growth of a nonaxisymmetric instability in one model, leading to strong narrow-band GW emission.

Background: Hallux valgus (HV) is a complex, multiplanar deformity. In this study, we examined the interrelationships between various components of this deformity using weightbearing computed tomography (WBCT). We hypothesized that the severity of traditional axial plane deformities would correlate with malpositioning of the metatarsosesamoid complex, first-ray coronal rotational deformity, and malalignment of the hindfoot and midfoot.

Friction stir welding (FSW) is a solid-state welding process that uses a rotating tool to soften and stir the base metal, thereby joining it. A special type of tool that has attracted the interest of researchers is the so-called bobbin tool (BTFSW), which, unlike conventional tools with one shoulder, features two shoulders that envelop the base metal from both the top and bottom sides. As a result, significant tensile stresses develop on both sides of the weld, caused by the action of both tool shoulders.

Introduction This study evaluated hip joint dynamic instability in patients with non-traumatic osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) with extensive lesions, who had undergone anterior rotational osteotomy (ARO) and high-degree posterior rotational osteotomy (HDPRO), based on the femoral head translation observed by computed tomography (CT) at 0° and 45° hip flexion. Materials and methods Medical records of patients who had undergone transtrochanteric rotational osteotomy for non-traumatic ONFH were retrospectively reviewed to identify patients who had undergone CT examinations six weeks post-operatively. In all, 64 hips (60 patients; 19 men and 41 women), comprising 36 hips treated with HDPRO and 28 hips treated with ARO, respectively, were included.

It has been challenging to determine how a ligand that binds to a receptor activates downstream signaling pathways and to predict the strength of signaling. The challenge is compounded by functional selectivity, in which a single ligand binding to a single receptor can activate multiple signaling pathways at different levels. Spectroscopic studies show that in the largest class of cell surface receptors, 7 transmembrane receptors (7TMRs), activation is associated with ligand-induced shifts in the equilibria of intracellular pocket conformations in the absence of transducer proteins.

Background: Preprocedural fasting is widely used before percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). However, the incidence of procedural intubation during PCI is unknown. This study aims to identify the incidence and predictors for procedural intubation during PCI.
