Interferometric devices have drawn a great interest in all-optical signal processing for their high-speed photonic activity. The nonlinear optical loop mirror provides a major support to optical switching based all-optical logic and algebraic operations. The gate based on the terahertz optical asymmetric demultiplexer (TOAD) has added new momentum in this field. Optical tree architecture (OTA) plays a significant role in the optical interconnecting network. We have tried to exploit the advantages of both OTA- and TOAD-based switches. We have proposed a TOAD-based tree architecture, a new and alternative scheme, for integrated all-optical logic and arithmetic operations.

Optical computing offers advantages such as high bandwidth and low loss, playing a crucial role in signal processing, communication, and sensing applications. Traditional optical logic gates, based on nonlinear fibers and optical amplifiers, suffer from poor robustness and large footprints, hindering their on-chip integration. All-optical logic gates based on topological photonic crystals have emerged as a promising approach for developing robust and monolithic optical computing systems.

The inherent potential for self-assembly is a well-known attribute of organic dye molecules. This work takes advantage of the changes in dye photochemical and photophysical properties produced by the aggregation phenomenon, to investigate the behavior of all-optical modulation in molecular aggregates. The theoretical principles for a dual beam all-optical modulation, as well as the conception of an optical logic gate by exploring the aggregation phenomenon are discussed throughout the article.

Optical logic operation is promising for ultrafast information processing and optical computing due to the high computation speed and low power consumption. However, conventional optical logic devices require either a complex structure and circuit design or a constant voltage supply, which impedes the development of high-density integrated circuits. Here, all-optical logic devices are designed using a self-powered polarization-sensitive photodiode of the GeSe homojunction, which is attributed to an anisotropic band structure and built-in electric field.

Universal all-optical (optical input - optical output) logic gates, realized in a commercial foundry silicon photonics process, are reported. Microring resonator modulator and zero-biased stacked photodiodes are used to create the required optical input-output nonlinear transfer function for optical gate realizations. Several logic gate functions, specifically NOR which is a universal logic gate that can be used to implement any logic, are demonstrated.
