By tuning a control parameter, a chaotic system can either display two or more attractors (generalized multistability) or exhibit an interior crisis, whereby a chaotic attractor suddenly expands to include the region of an unstable orbit (bursting regime).Recently, control of multistability and bursting have been experimentally proved in a modulated class B laser by means of a feedback method. In a bistable regime, the method relies on the knowledge of the frequency components of the two attractors. Near an interior crisis, the method requires retrieval of the unstable orbit colliding with the chaotic attractor. We also show that a suitable parameter modulation is able to control bistability in the Lorenz system. We observe that, for every given modulation frequency, the chaotic attractor is destroyed under a boundary crisis. The threshold control amplitude depends on the control frequency and the location of the operating point in the bistable regime. Beyond the boundary crisis, the system remains in the steady state even if the control is switched off, demonstrating control of bistability.

Significant changes in a system's dynamics can be understood through modifications in the topological structure of its flow in phase space. In the Earth's climate system, such changes are often referred to as tipping points. One of the large-scale components that may pass a tipping point is the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation.

Vibrational resonance and chaos control in the canonical Chua's circuit with a smooth cubic nonlinear resistor is investigated by an analog circuit experiment and a dynamical model. By adjusting the amplitude and frequency of the high-frequency signal while keeping other parameters constant, the system exhibits a resonant peak in its response to the weak low-frequency signal. Notably, when the amplitude of the high-frequency signal exceeds the critical threshold, the system undergoes a transition from a single-scroll chaotic attractor to a double-scroll chaotic attractor, marking the emergence of vibrational resonance.

Volition is conceived as a set of orchestrated executive functions, which can be characterized by features, such as reason-based and goal-directedness, driven by endogenous signals. The lateral prefrontal cortex (LPFC) has long been considered to be responsible for cognitive control and executive function, and its neurodynamics appears to be central to goal-directed cognition. In order to address both associative processes (i.

The studies conducted in this contribution are based on the analysis of the dynamics of a homogeneous network of five inertial neurons of the Hopfield type to which a unidirectional ring coupling topology is applied. The coupling is achieved by perturbing the next neuron's amplitude with a signal proportional to the previous one. The system consists of ten coupled ODEs, and the investigations carried out have allowed us to highlight several unusual and rarely related dynamics, hence the importance of emphasizing them.

This paper introduces a novel class of chaotic attractors by lever- aging different activation functions within neurons possessing multiple dendrites. We propose a comprehensive framework where the activation functions in neurons are varied, allowing for diverse behaviors such as amplification, fluctuation, and folding of scrolls within the resulting chaotic attractors. By employing wavelet functions and other model-specific activation functions, we demonstrate the capability to modify scroll characteristics, including size and direction.
