Published: February 1992

Two groups of patients with chronic pulmonary tuberculosis are presented. The first group of 92 patients were unsuccessfully treated according to current principles of treatment of chronic, resistant pulmonary tuberculosis. In the second group of 11 patients, unsuccessfully treated according to current methods, a new combination of drugs was applied so that a drug of the aminoglycoside group or chinolon group (Amikacin 1000 mg every second day or Ciprofloxacin 750 mg daily) was added to conventional therapy. Applying such therapy during 4 months encouraging results have been obtained.

Despite the study of BCR::ABL1-positive and -negative myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) providing seminal insights into cancer biology, tumor evolution and precision oncology over the past half century, significant challenges remain. MPNs are clonal hematopoietic stem cell-derived neoplasms with heterogenous clinical phenotypes and a clonal architecture which impacts the often-complex underlying genetics and microenvironment. The major driving molecular abnormalities have been well characterized, but debate on their role as disease-initiating molecular lesions continues.

The long-term clinical outcomes and associated prognostic factors in contactin-associated protein-like 2 (CASPR2)-antibody diseases are unknown. A total of 75 participants with CASPR2 antibodies were longitudinally assessed for disability, quality-of-life, and chronic pain. Although most symptoms improved within 6 months of treatment, neuropathic pain and fatigue were the most immunotherapy refractory, and persisted for up to 6 years.

Both resistance training (RT) and long-duration, high-intensity stretching induce muscular adaptations; however, it is unknown whether the modalities are complementary or redundant, particularly in well-trained individuals. A case-study was conducted on a competitive bodybuilder implementing long-duration, high-intensity stretching of the plantar flexors (60 min 6x/week for 12 weeks) in conjunction with their habitual RT. Ultrasound muscle architecture (muscle thickness [MT], fascicle length [FL], and pennation angle [PA]) measurements were collected at multiple sites at four weekly baseline sessions, six (mid) and 12 (post1) weeks following the commencement of the intervention, and a week after the intervention (post2) while isometric strength and range of motion (RoM) were obtained once at baseline, mid, post1, and post2.

Drug resistance is a common challenge in clinical tumor treatment. A reduction in drug sensitivity of tumor cells is often accompanied by an increase in autophagy levels, leading to autophagy-related resistance. The effectiveness of combining chemotherapy drugs with autophagy inducers/inhibitors has been widely confirmed, but the mechanisms are still unclear.

Despite advances in healthcare, bacterial pathogens remain a severe global health threat, exacerbated by rising antibiotic resistance. Lower respiratory tract infections, with their high death toll, are of particular concern. Accurately replicating host-pathogen interactions in laboratory models is crucial for understanding these diseases and evaluating new therapies.
