The authors provide the world reported data and materials of their own observations regarding the use of the "tracing systems" to control the residual pool of leukemic cells as a source of potential relapses. An attempt has been made to classify the techniques available; they are discussed from the stand point of the information content and feasibility in hematological practice. The necessity of developing studies into this problem in the USSR is emphasized.

Background: The proliferation capacity of adult cardiomyocytes is very limited in the normal adult mammalian heart. Previous studies implied that cardiomyocyte proliferation increases after injury stimulation, but the result is controversial partly due to different methodologies. We aim to evaluate whether myocardial infarction (MI) stimulates cardiomyocyte proliferation in adult mice.

Tracing Quiescent Cancer Cells In Vivo.

Cancers (Basel)

November 2024

Department of Life Science, Gachon University, Seongnam 13120, Republic of Korea.

QCCs have long gained significant interest as potential "seeds" for recurrent cancers. Clinical evidence suggests that a subset of cancer cells exits the cell cycle and enters a quiescent state following anti-cancer treatment. These microscopic-residual QCCs are extremely challenging to trace and detect within patients.

Parkinson's disease dementia (PDD) is commonly developed in patients at the late stage of Parkinson's disease (PD) with unknown progression mechanisms. From the post-mortem tissues and animal models, the ventral tegmental area (VTA) and the CA2 regions are closely associated with dementia development in PDD. However, the structural connection between the two regions has not been fully traced.

Article Synopsis
  • Contact tracing was crucial during the COVID-19 pandemic in various countries, especially in Germany, to limit the virus's spread and manage healthcare resources.
  • A study in the Rhine-Neckar and Heidelberg areas of Germany explored the effectiveness of contact tracing across different age groups from January 2020 to April 2022, analyzing data on infections and quarantines.
  • Results showed that out of a population of 706,974, a significant portion tested positive for COVID-19, with lower relative risk of infection for elderly individuals compared to adults, and the majority of deaths occurred in senior citizens.

The cell fates of intermediate cell population in prostate development.

Cell Insight

August 2024

Key Laboratory of Multi-Cell Systems, Shanghai Key Laboratory of Molecular Andrology, Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Center for Excellence in Molecular Cell Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai, 200031, China.

Organ development, regeneration and cancer initiation are typically influenced by the proliferation and lineage plasticity of tissue-specific stem cells. Prostate intermediate cells, which exhibit characteristics of both basal and luminal cells, are prevalent in pathological states and during organ development. However, the identity, fate and function of these intermediate cells in prostate development are not well understood.
