Several depressions were identified in the dynamics of white-backed woodpecker (Dendrocopos leucotos) distribution in the southern part of the range in the Volga Region, which were due to anthropogenic deforestation over large areas. One of the last destabilizations occurred in the first half of the 20th century when the southern limit of the breeding range receded northward by 100-300 km. Gradual afforestation in the region resulting from ameliorative measures stabilized the limits of the breeding range and northward expansion of the woodpecker. Currently, the habitat of this species is confined to mature broadleaf forests in the Right Bank Saratov Region; in the Khopyor and Medveditsa Valleys, its breeding range extends to 51 degrees 40' N. The birds occur further to the south and east in the post-breeding and winter periods. The limited distribution and low abundance suggests this species to be included in the second edition of the Red Book of Saratov Region.

Soybean () is a leguminous plant with a broad range of applications, particularly in agriculture and food production, where its seed composition-especially oil and protein content-is highly valued. Improving these traits is a primary focus of soybean breeding programs. In this study, we conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) to identify genetic loci linked to oil and protein content in seeds, using imputed genotype data for 180 Eurasian soybean varieties and the novel "genotypic twins" approach.

Genome-Wide Association and Genomic Prediction of Alfalfa ( L.) Biomass Yield Under Drought Stress.

Int J Mol Sci

January 2025

Plant Germplasm Introduction and Testing Research Unit, USDA-ARS, Prosser, WA 99350, USA.

Developing drought-resistant alfalfa ( L.) that maintains high biomass yield is a key breeding goal to enhance productivity in water-limited areas. In this study, 424 alfalfa breeding families were analyzed to identify molecular markers associated with biomass yield under drought stress and to predict high-merit plants.

Background: The patterns of inbreeding coefficients () and fine spatial genetic structure (FSGS) were evaluated regarding the mating system and inbreeding depression of food-deceptive orchids, , var. , and , from NE Poland.

Methods: We used 455 individuals, representing nine populations of three taxa and AFLPs, to estimate percent polymorphic loci and Nei's gene diversity, which are calculated using the Bayesian method; ; ; FSGS with the pairwise kinship coefficient (); and AMOVA in populations.

Optimized Two-Port Laparoscopic-Assisted Ovariohysterectomy for Hydrometra and Pyometra in Small-Sized Dogs.

Animals (Basel)

January 2025

Evergreen Vet Research & Publication, Ichinomiya 491-0914, Japan.

The clinical outcomes of laparoscopic-assisted ovariohysterectomy for the treatment of hydrometra or pyometra in small-sized dogs have not been reported. This study aimed to retrospectively investigate the clinical outcomes of two-port laparoscopic-assisted ovariohysterectomy in small-sized dogs weighing < 6 kg with mild to moderate hydrometra or pyometra. Laparoscopic ports were placed at the umbilicus on the midline, as well as at the midpoint between the umbilicus and pelvic brim.
