Introduction: The aim was to monitor the changes in haemocoagulation parameters in healthy volunteers after a thrombotripsy with 1-hour transcranial Doppler monitoring using a 2-4 MHz probe.
Materials And Methods: About 10 healthy volunteers underwent a 1-hour thrombotripsy of the middle cerebral artery (MCA), thrombotripsy of the radial artery and a standard 20-min neurosonologic examination (NSE) in 2-week intervals. Platelet count, aPTT, prothrombin time, fibrinogen, D-dimers, tPA, FDP, alpha-2-antiplasmin (AP), plasminogen, PAI-1 antigen, time of euglobulin clot lysis (ECL), homocysteine, and lipoprotein (a) were examined before, at the end and 24 h after a thrombotripsy. All adverse events were monitored.
Results: After a thrombotripsy of the MCA, PAI-1 antigen, tPA antigen, fibrinogen and AP activity were significantly decreased by a mean of 32, 23, 7, and 4% respectively (P < 0.05 in all cases). After a thrombotripsy of the RA, there was a significant decrease in tPA antigen alone by an average of 14% (P < 0.05). Standard NSE did not affect any of the measured factors.
Conclusions: Thrombotripsy with 1-hour TCD monitoring using a 2-4 MHz diagnostic probe may affect the fibrinolytic system in humans.

Background: The effect of axial rotation between the femoral neck and ankle joint (total rotation [TR]) on normal knees is unknown. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the TR effect on normal knee kinematics.
Methods: Volunteers were divided into groups large (L), intermediate (I), and small (S), using hierarchical cluster analysis based on TR in the standing position.
Background: Except host and environmental factors influencing individual human cytokine responses, pre-analytical handling procedures and detection methods also affect cytokine levels.
Methods: In this study, we used cytometric bead array (CBA) and chemiluminescence (ECL). These two methods were used to test serum and plasma samples from 50 healthy adult volunteers and 50 rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients' cytokine levels.

Molecular changes have a substantial impact on the onset of colorectal cancer (CRC). Complexes of HOTAIR and miRNAs disrupt several cellular functions during carcinogenesis, primarily by disrupting several carcinogenic signaling pathways. In the present study, the relationships between the serum levels of transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1), sirtuin-1 (SIRT1) and E-cadherin and those of HOX transcript antisense intergenic RNA (HOTAIR) and microRNA-130a (miR-130a) in individuals with CRC were analyzed, including their correlations and diagnostic potential.

Introduction: Cortisol is an essential stress hormone and failure of its production, known as adrenal insufficiency (AI), is associated with significant mortality due to adrenal crisis. The Short Synacthen Test (SST) is the current diagnostic test of choice for AI, but it is both invasive and resource intensive. Globally, there is an unmet need for a non-invasive, cost-effective test.

The single nucleotide polymorphism in NOD2 (rs2066847) is associated with conditions that may predispose to the development of gastrointestinal disorders, as well as the known BRCA1 and BRCA2 variants classified as risk factors in many cancers. In our study, we analyzed these variants in a group of patients with pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer to clarify their role in pancreatic disease development. The DNA was isolated from whole blood samples of 553 patients with pancreatitis, 83 patients with pancreatic cancer, 44 cases of other pancreatic diseases, and 116 healthy volunteers.
