Over the past decade, speech-language pathologists (SLPs) have increased their involvement in the assessment and management of infants and children with complex feeding and swallowing problems. Given the complex problems demonstrated by these infants and children that vary across a range of conditions and degrees of severity, SLPs need to increase their knowledge in all the topics covered in this issue. This article will discuss the current state of evidence-based decision making, levels of evidence for studies of treatment efficacy, ethical principles in evidence-based decision making, and ethical decision-making considerations with feeding and swallowing issues using examples of three types of populations of infants and children with complex feeding and swallowing problems.

The tongue, in particular, features a highly intricate muscular system composed of four intrinsic muscles and several types of extrinsic muscles, enabling flexible and diverse movements essential for feeding, swallowing, and speech production. Aims: To retrospectively evaluate the effect of a sequential swallow training programme (SSTP) consisting of nonnutritive sucking (NNS), modified feeding posture, oral sensory-motor intervention and breath exercise on the independent oral feeding transition and coordination of suck-swallow-breath (SSB) functions in preterm infants.
Methods: Sixty preterm infants received SSTP intervention and sixty infants receiving NNS were set as control. The feeding performance and SSB coordination were assessed using POFRAS and NOMAS scales.

This study aimed to develop the 'Fear of Feeding My Child- A Parental Report (FF-PR)', which measures the parental fear of feeding their children, and to determine its reliability and validity. The study consists of the developmental phase and reported the content validity, internal consistency, test-retest reliability, construct, criterion, and discriminant validity. The study included two groups; 'Group I (N = 90)' who had a neurological disorder and their parents, and 'Group II (N = 60)' who were typically developing children without any feeding and swallowing problems and their parents.
