The effect of pressure on viability and the synthesis of bacterial cellulose (BC) by Gluconacetobacter xylinus ATCC53582 were investigated. G. xylinus was statically cultivated in a pressurized vessel under 0.1, 30, 60, and 100 MPa at 25 degrees C for 6 days. G. xylinus cells remained viable and retained cellulose producing ability under all the conditions tested, though the production of cellulose decreased with increasing the pressure. The BCs produced at each pressure condition were analyzed by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR). FE-SEM revealed that the widths of BC fibers produced under high pressure decreased as compared with those produced under the atmospheric pressure. By FT-IR, all the BCs were found to be of Cellulose type I, as the same as typical native cellulose. Our findings evidently showed that G. xylinus possessed a piezotolerant (barotolerant) feature adapting to 100 MPa without losing its BC producing ability. This was the first attempt in synthesizing BC with G. xylinus under elevated pressure of 100 MPa, which corresponded to the deep sea at 10,000 m.

Background/purpose: Although clinical studies have suggested a link between non-axial forces and reduced longevity of cervical restorations, the underlying mechanisms require further numerical investigation. This in-silico study employed a cohesive zone model (CZM) to investigate interfacial damage in a cervical restoration subjected to different load directions.
Materials And Methods: A plane strain model of a maxillary premolar was established, with a wedge-shaped buccal cervical restoration.

Current challenges in tissue engineering include creation of extracellular environments that support and interact with cells using biochemical, mechanical, and structural cues. Spatial control over these cues is currently limited due to a lack of suitable fabrication techniques. This study introduces Xolography, an emerging dual-color light-sheet volumetric printing technology, to achieve control over structural and mechanical features for hydrogel-based photoresins at micro- to macroscale while printing within minutes.

Metal-nonaqueous solution interfaces, a key to many electrochemical technologies, including lithium metal batteries, are much less understood than their aqueous counterparts. Herein, on several metal-nonaqueous solution interfaces, we observe capacitances that are 2 orders of magnitude lower than the usual double-layer capacitance. Combining electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, and physical modeling, we ascribe the ultralow capacitance to an interfacial layer of 10-100 nm above the metal surface.

Enthalpy is often the focal point when designing monomers for polymer circularity, but much less is explored on how entropy can be exploited to create polymers with synergistic circularity and properties. Here, we design a series of spiro-lactones (SLs) with closed-chain cycloalk(en)yl substituents at the α,α-position of δ-valerolactone (δVL), which, when combined with the parent δVL and -α,α-dialkyl-substituted δVL with open-chain alkyl groups, provide a desired platform for exploring the circular polymer design by focusing on the entropy change of polymerization. These SLs exhibit finely balanced (de)polymerizability that is regulated chiefly by entropy differentiation, allowing both the facile synthesis of polyester PSLs ( up to 1000 kg mol) in a living fashion and selective depolymerization of the PSLs to completely recover monomers under mild conditions (using a recyclable catalyst at 100 °C).

Unlabelled: The present work investigates the impact of pressure (; 300-600 MPa) and holding time (; 5-20 min) on the quality attributes and microbial stability of jackfruit shreds. The results revealed that the and had significantly affected physico-chemcial and bioactive composition of the jackfruit shreds. Higher levels of and increased the firmness of the shreds.
