Predictable esthetics through functional design: the role of harmonious disclusion.

Published: November 2007

Unlabelled: The goal of this clinical report is to describe and illustrate the principles for achieving a predictable esthetic result for patients with worn incisal edges by creating a harmonious angle of disclusion. Patients can create an esthetic problem from altered tooth form and tooth migration, caused by worn incisal edges resulting from parafunctional activity. This presents substantial challenges to the restorative dentist, paramount among them, achieving longevity of porcelain or composite bonded restorations used in an esthetic reconstruction. Although a number of therapies are available to provide esthetic improvement, the predictability in the continuing presence of the parafunction that caused the esthetic problem is in doubt. Altering the incisal edge position for esthetics and achieving a harmonious angle of disclusion, though, is a clinical approach that may substantially reduce this risk.

Clinical Significance: An angle of disclusion in harmony with a patient's envelope of parafunction reduces load on the anterior teeth and therefore may help reduce failure on the restored anterior teeth.

Evaluation of Disclusion Time in Various Angle's Malocclusions by T-Scan III System.

Eur J Dent

October 2019

Department of Preventive Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry, Naresuan University, Phitsanulok, Thailand.

Objective:  The main purpose of this article is to evaluate the disclusion time (DT) in the lateral excursions and protrusion among subjects with Angle's malocclusions using a T-Scan III system.

Materials And Methods:  One hundred subjects with malocclusions were divided into Class I, Class II division 1, Class II division 2, and Class III ( = 25 per group). All groups' DT of each excursion was evaluated by a T-Scan III system.

The mechanics of dental occlusion and disclusion.

Clin Biomech (Bristol)

December 2017

Department of Biostatistics, Indiana University School of Medicine, Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis, IN, USA.

Background: The mechanical environment associated with occluding teeth is the foundation for a wide range of research topics, clinical practice and dogma, product development and marketing, and medico-legal issues. The purpose of this study was to experimentally examine the relationships between occlusal factors and their impact on the associated contact forces.

Methods: Matching pairs of 0°, 20°, 33° and 40° cusp first molar denture teeth were placed into Class I, II and III molar relationships.

Cephalometric parameters are thought to influence static posture. The present work evaluates the relationships between skeletal class or facial divergency, on one hand, and body posture, on the other hand. ANB and FMA angles were measured from profile cephalograms in twenty healthy adults.

Background And Objectives: This study was done with the objectives to determine the range of functional zone between the intercuspal positions and edge to edge position, the range of incomplete and complete disclusion of posterior teeth in canine-guided occlusion, and to have a gender comparison and comparison between right and left sides of the obtained values.

Materials And Methods: Thirty-five subjects showing canine-guided occlusion and Angle's class I canine and molar relation were chosen for the study. Maxillary midline and a corresponding line on the mandible were marked in maximum intercuspation with marker pen in the patient's mouth.
