Background And Purpose: A door-to-door survey was carried out in Bizovac area, Osijek-Baranya County in east Croatia. A cluster sample of 1899 inhabitants were screened to determine the prevalence of acute cerebrovascular disease (CVD): transient ischemic attacks (TIA) and stroke in this population.
Methods: We used a modified version of the World Health Organization screening instrument. A door-to-door survey of stroke was conducted in five Osijek suburbs, east Croatia. The data obtained were compared with data in personal records of the study subjects.
Results: On March 31, 2005, the prevalence of acute CVD was 3370/100.000 (stroke 1948/100,000 and TIA 1422/100,000), of CVD in males 3047/100,000 (stroke 1959/100,000 and TIA 1088/100,000); of CVD in females 3673/100,000 (stroke 1939/100,000 and TIA 1735/100,000); and the prevalence of acute CVD progressively increased with age: in 45-54 age group 1290/00,000 (stroke 942/100,000, TIA 348/100,000); in 55-64 age group 7895/100,000 (stroke 5623/100,000, TIA 2272/100,000); in 65-74 age group 11386/100,000 (stroke 7393/100,000, TIA 3993/100,000); and in 75-84 age group 14035/100,000 (stroke 10001/100,000, TIA 4034/100,000) as the highest figure.
Conclusion: The study revealed a very high prevalence of acute CVD in the study area and confirmed CVD as one of the leading medical and public health issues in Bizovac area, Osijek-Baranya County, east Croatia.

BACKGROUND This study aimed to analyze the risk factors of central nervous system (CNS) infection caused by reactivation of varicella zoster virus (VZV) and provide reference for the prevention and early diagnosis of VZV-associated CNS infection. MATERIAL AND METHODS A prospective study was conducted on 1030 patients with acute herpes zoster (HZ) admitted to our hospital from January 2021 to June 2023. According to clinical manifestations and auxiliary examinations, they were divided into HZ group of 990 patients and VZV-associated CNS infection group of 40 patients.

This study investigated the incidence of new-onset cardiovascular disorders up to 3.5 years post SARS-CoV-2 infection for 56,400 individuals with COVID-19 and 1,093,904 contemporary controls without COVID-19 in the Montefiore Health System (03/11/2020 to 07/01/2023). Outcomes were new incidence of major adverse cardiovascular event (MACE), arrhythmias, inflammatory heart disease, thrombosis, cerebrovascular disorders, ischemic heart disease and other cardiac disorders between 30 days and (up to) 3.

The aim of this study was to evaluate how COVID-19 affected acute stroke care and outcome in patients with acute ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke. We performed a retrospective analysis on patients who were admitted with acute ischemic (AIS) or hemorrhagic (ICH) stroke from September 2020 to May 2021 with and without COVID-19. We recorded demographic and clinical data, imaging parameters, functional outcome and mortality at one year.

Delirium, a neuropsychiatric syndrome characterized by acute disruptions in attention and awareness, significantly impacts children in Pediatric Intensive Care Units (PICUs), leading to prolonged hospitalization, increased infection risk, and dependence on mechanical ventilation. Despite growing recognition, its true burden and risk factors in children remain poorly understood. This prospective cohort study investigated the prevalence, characteristics, and potential therapeutic targets for delirium in 890 children admitted to a tertiary PICU between January and December 2022.
