Introduction: To appreciate vitamin B1 status in normal and pathophysiological states in local ivorian populations, a high-performance liquid chromatographic method for the simultaneous determination of thiamine and its phosphate esters: thiamine monophosphate and thiamine diphsophate or cocarboxylase in whole blood has been developed.

Methods: The method involves extraction with diethylether, followed by pre-column alkaline derivatization by bromide cyanogen. The extract was analysed by isocratic reversed-phase isocratic high performance liquid chromatography with fluorescent detection. System suitability tests were applied to assess the method's continuing suitability for use. The main tests of method validation: linearity, precision, accuracy and sensibility were applied to the analytical procedure.

Results: Thiamine and its esters were eluted within 10 minutes with a good resolution. System suitability tests showed that the chromatographic system was suitable for continuing use. Results of validation tests show the reliability of the method : linearity domain, satisfying precision and accuracy, detection limits between 0.067 pg/l et 0.92 pg/l (0.160 fmol/l et 1.822 fmol/l).

Conclusion: The proposed method is suitable for determination of thiamine and its phosphate esters in whole blood.

Background: Mare milk has often been considered a food product with potential functional properties. However, the bioactive compound composition of mare milk, including vitamins and other minor bioactive compounds, as well as factors affecting this composition have scarcely been studied. Therefore, the present study aimed to characterize the changes during lactation in the content of water- and fat-soluble vitamins and total polyphenols, and the total antioxidant capacity of mare milk from semi-extensive farms.

Background: Benfotiamine, a synthetic analog of thiamine, offers greater bioavailability compared to other thiamine salts and increases thiamine stores upon oral intake. Thiamine is essential for energy metabolism. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of oral benfotiamine supplementation on energy metabolism, particularly the Krebs cycle function, in the muscle of endurance-trained mice, and to assess its impact on endurance performance.

Enzymes of the 2-oxoacid:ferredoxin oxidoreductase (OFOR) superfamily catalyze the reversible oxidation of 2-oxoacids to acyl-coenzyme A esters and carbon dioxide (CO)using ferredoxin or flavodoxin as the redox partner. Although members of the family share primary sequence identity, a variety of domain and subunit arrangements are known. Here, we characterize the structure of a four-subunit family member: the pyruvate:ferredoxin oxidoreductase (PFOR) from the methane producing archaeon Methanosarcina acetivorans (MaPFOR).

Thiamine status and genes encoding intestinal thiamine transporters and transcription factors in obese subjects.

Nutr Metab Cardiovasc Dis

October 2024

Department of Medical Biology and Genome and Stem Cell Center (GENKOK) Faculty of Medicine, Erciyes University, Kayseri, Turkey.

Background And Aims: The inconsistent data on thiamine status in obese subjects necessitates an examination of genes associated with intestinal absorption of thiamine. We aimed to reveal thiamine status in obese subjects and examine the expression of SLC19A2/3 genes encoding thiamine transporters and Sp1 transcription factor.

Methods And Results: Thirty-five adult obese subjects and 11 healthy controls were included in this cross-sectional study.

Chicken is renowned as the most affordable meat option, prized by consumers worldwide for its unique flavor, and universally recognized for its essential savory flavor. Current research endeavors are increasingly dedicated to exploring the flavor profile of chicken meat. However, there is a noticeable gap in comprehensive reviews dedicated specifically to the flavor quality of chicken meat, although existing reviews cover meat flavor profiles of various animal species.
