In adults, caffeine has been shown to enhance the effectiveness of most analgesics, including ibuprofen. This double-blind cross-over pilot study evaluated the effect of ibuprofen and caffeine compared with ibuprofen and placebo in 12 children with headaches. Patients completed diaries for both headaches. Outcome measures included a five-faces severity scale, a measure of clinical disability, and a scale of pain severity. Comparison of the cumulative response scores revealed a trend toward a greater response to ibuprofen-caffeine treatment of headaches (P = 0.14, P = 0.09, and P = 0.07 for the three measures, respectively). Further larger studies are needed to confirm this effect and to identify potential responders.

Parkinson's disease (PD) manifests as a movement and brain function disorder characterized by symptoms such as resting tremors, rigidity, bradykinesia, and postural instability, leading to disability among patients. The use of psychostimulants such as caffeine has been associated with the improvement of motor symptoms in PD patients; however, studies regarding the effect of caffeine adjuvant therapy on motor function among PD patients in the Indonesian population are lacking. The aim of this study was to evaluate motor improvement as measured by the change in scores of the Movement Disorder Society - Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale Part III (MDS-UPDRS-III) among PD patients receiving caffeine adjuvant.

The inhibition of renal transport proteins organic cation transporter 2 (OCT2), multidrug and toxin extrusion proteins (MATE1, MATE2-K), and organic anion transporters (OAT1, OAT3) causes clinically relevant drug-drug interactions (DDI). Street cocaine is often mixed with various substances that intensify its harmful effects. This paper proposes a framework to identify attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) intervals that best predict the concentration of adulterants in cocaine samples. Wavelengths are ranked according to their relevance through ReliefF and mRMR feature selection approaches, and an iterative process removes less relevant wavelengths based on the ranking suggested by each approach.
